  • Lebanon wins award for hosting sporting events

     The Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission received one of four Kentucky Readers’ Choice Awards from SportsEvents Media Group.

    Sports event professionals were asked to name sports commissions, convention and visitors bureaus, and sports venues that provide creativity and professionalism. Nominations were accepted throughout 2013, and the top choices were based on online voting.

  • Boldrick Avenue man indicted for drug trafficking

    Christopher D. Thompson, 33, of 310 Boldrick Avenue in Lebanon was indicted in Marion Circuit Court recently for first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (four or more grams of cocaine) second or subsequent office, first-degree wanton endangerment (two counts), trafficking in marijuana (less than eight ounces) first offense, and buying or possessing drug paraphernalia.

  • Second try at Super Bowl picks

    I’m a big enough man to admit when I’m wrong, so here it is: my Super Bowl picks were awful. 

    The Panthers lost in bad fashion to the 49ers in their first playoff game, and the Patriots fell in an equally lopsided contest to Denver. 

    So there it is. I’m wrong, all my friends were right, and I’m a bumbling idiot who knows nothing about sports (they told me I had to say that last part).

    It’s been a winter for the record books, and many of us are ready for spring. But, before we tell Old Man Winter to take a hike, we want to see your snow photos. Did you go sledding?   • Youth soccer sign-ups start Saturday

     The Marion County Youth Soccer Association will have its spring soccer sign-ups from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 1 and 8 at the concession stand at the soccer fields on Fairgrounds Road in Lebanon.

    Parents can also print a registration form and medical release from the league’s website, http://www.mcys.webs.com/, and mail it to the address on the form.
