  • Marion County farmer supports Bradfordsville Fire Department

    Local farmer Ronnie Kirkland has directed a $2,500 donation to Bradfordsville Fire Department. Funded by America’s Farmers Grow Communities, the donation will help the department purchase two-way radio communication equipment.
    Thanks to the support of farmers across the country, more than $3.2 million is being directed to nonprofits in 1,289 counties in 39 states.

    The Arbor Day Foundation is making it easy for everyone to celebrate the arrival of spring by planting trees.
    Join the Arbor Day Foundation in March 2014 and receive 10 free white flowering dogwood trees.
    “White flowering dogwoods will add beauty to your home throughout the year,” said John Rosenow, founder and chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation. “Dogwoods are known for their showy spring flowers, scarlet autumn foliage and red berries that attract songbirds during the winter.”

  • Board of education approves changes to school calendar

    The Marion County Board of Education has approved using two days of Spring Break (March 31 and April 1) and Memorial Day (May 26) as make-up days.

    Depending on what the state legislature approves, additional amendments could be made that could make the last day for students Friday, May 30.

    The Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission is scheduled to meet at 3:30 p.m. Monday, March 10, at the Centre Square Convention Center.

    City council meets at 7 p.m.

  • Fire reported at Lebanon Auto Repair

     Lebanon firefighters responded to Lebanon Auto Repair on Woodlawn Avenue Friday evening after a fire was observed at the business.

    The fire was reported to the Lebanon Police Dispatch at 7:15 p.m. Friday.

    Firefighters suppressed the flames at the auto repair shop before 8 p.m., but smoke was still visible. 

    Lebanon Fire Chief Ricky Mattingly said four cars were inside the garage at the time of the fire, two of which belonged to the owner, Ricky Wheatley, and two of which belonged to other people.

  • Fiscal court meets today

     The Marion County Fiscal Court is scheduled to meet in regular session at 4 p.m. today, March 6.

    The agenda for today's meeting includes:

    - Audit of sheriffs tax settlement for year ending April 2013

    - Review Sheriff Compliance Audit  letter for use of KLEFPE Funds
