  • Hamilton and Howard have strong showings


    The Marion County High School golf teams each had three competitive events last week. The Knights and Lady Knights faced Washington County on Monday at Rosewood and Bardstown on the road. On Saturday, the Knights traveled to take part in the John Hardin Invitational and the Lady Knights headed to Russell County to take part in the KIT.

  • Soccer Knights have a good week

    The Marion County Knights soccer team picked up a pair of victories and nearly grabbed a third win last week.
    The Knights hit the road to play Mercer County on Tuesday of last week. The Knights quickly found themselves in a tough match due to Mercer County’s speed and physical play, according to Head Coach Greg Conley. The Knights allowed Mercer County to score the first three goals of the game before battling back to eventually lose the game 3-2.

  • Varsity volleyball team loses two

    The Marion County Lady Knights junior varsity and freshman volleyball teams were in action in the Lafayette 5 Star Classic Saturday. Both teams went 2-2 on the weekend. The freshman team beat both Lexington Catholic and Madison Central, but fell to Owensboro Catholic and Central Hardin.
    The junior varsity team beat Lexington Catholic in two sets, 21-15 and 21-19.  The team then defeated Madison Central in two sets, 21-14 and 22-20. Marion County then lost to Dunbar in two sets, 21-12 and 21-6 and also to Owensboro Catholic in two sets, 21-8 and 21-19.

  • Pigskin Classic

    The Marion County Knights football team hosted Clay County in the second game of the 2011 Pigskin Classic Saturday evening. After coming off of a 48-21 loss to Russell County last week, the Knights looked to even their record. After allowing the Tigers to score midway through the first quarter, the Knights had to fight back to stay in the game. Marion County would climb back into the game and tie the game at halftime, 14-14.  

  • Wrecks claim 3 lives in 1 week

    A tragic week in and around Marion County included multiple automobile accidents, three fatalities and multiple injuries.

    The accidents occurred Wednesday, Aug. 24, on Springfield Highway and Sunday, Aug. 28, on McElroy Pike and Short Line Pike.
