  • Lady Knights cap perfect season with state title

    The Marion County Lady Knights basketball team made history once again Saturday night.  
    This time, the Lady Knights won the championship game of the Houchens Industries/KHSAA Girls Sweet 16 State Basketball Tournament at E.A. Diddle Arena and finished the season with a perfect 39-0 record.  
    This is the Lady Knights’ fourth straight state tournament appearance, and each year the team advanced further than the previous year. After falling in the final game last year, Marion County took down the Notre Dame Pandas, 52-36.

    You ever have one of those dreams that you want so bad to come true that you can feel it? What about a dream that you had to wait four years to come true? Well, the Lady Knights have been waiting four long years for their dream to come true.
    Basketball fans in Marion County have been waiting for 20 years for their dreams to come true for another state basketball championship. In fact, today is the exact 20th anniversary of the Marion County Knights win at Rupp Arena over Dunbar to bring home the first state title in school history.  

  • Tourism director resigns

    Nicky Reynolds has resigned as the executive director of the Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission. 

    Reynolds submitted her resignation March 18. Her last day in Lebanon will be April 12. She will be moving to Rutherford County, Tenn., where she will become the vice president of the Rutherford County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

    Reynolds was hired in January of 2012, and she started working in Lebanon in Feb. 13, 2012. She came to Lebanon from the Oak Ridge (Tenn.) Convention and Visitors Bureau.

    The Marion County Lady Knights wrapped up a perfect 39-0 season by winning the 2013 state championship.

    Marion County defeated the Notre Dame Pandas in the Girls Sweet 16 final, 52-36.

    Marion County High School Principal Stacy Hall said a welcome home celebration has been scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Roby Dome.

  • Lady Knights will take on Notre Dame in state title game

    In one of the better games of the tournament so far, the Lady Pandas from Notre Dame made nearly all their free throws down the stretch to defeat Manual 64-60 in the second semifinal game of the Sweet 16.  Notre Dame has now advanced to the state championship game and will play Marion County tonight at 8:00 PM central time or 9:00 PM eastern time. 

  • Marion County to face Notre Dame in state final

    The Marion County Lady Knights (38-0) will face the 9th Region champion Notre Dame Pandas (29-5) for the state championship in the 2013 Girls Sweet 16 at 9 p.m. Eastern time/8 p.m. Central time in Diddle Arena in Bowling Green.

    Marion County has rolled through its first three opponents in this year's Sweet 16. The Lady Knights are averaging 69 points per game and allowing 41.3 points. Notre Dame is averaging 56.3 points per game in the state tournament, while allowing 50.7 points.

     

  • KSP investigating a murder/suicide in Gravel Switch

    The Kentucky State Police are investigating the deaths of Judith Duncil, 52, and George Merrick, 62, both of Gravel Switch.
    KSP Post 15 received a call from Casey County dispatch at 11:46 p.m., on Friday, March 15, reporting that they had received a call of shots fired at a residence on Little South Road in Gravel Switch, according to a KSP media release.

  • Marion County defeats Anderson County in final four
  • Lady Knights defeat Montgomery County

    After defeating Bowling Green in their opening round game, the Marion County Knights will now take on 10th region champs Montgomery County in the quarterfinals.  The Lady Indians are 29-6 after a 60-49 win over Ashland Blazer in their opening round game.  Montgomery County has suffered a 32 point loss to Mercy early in the year, a loss to Newport Central Catholic, a pair of losses to Madison Central, a loss to Anderson County, and now have avenged a loss to Ashland Blazer.
