  • Simpson gets the nod

    A former hard-nosed head coach recently got the nod to be inducted into the Greater Louisville Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

    Tommy Simpson, former Marion County High School football Head Coach and member of the University of Kentucky's famous "Thin Thirty", was inducted on July 19 at the Legends Kickoff Dinner.

    "I knew about it a week before hand. I thought it was a joke they were pulling on me. Then the head person in Louisville called and I knew it was serious," Simpson said.

  • Girls come home empty handed

    The Marion County 11-12-year-old Little League softball All-Stars made a solid run at winning the state tournament but wound up falling short of the title.  

    The team defeated Prestonsburg, 14-4, July 21 and defeated South London, 5-4, July 22. The All-Stars went 4-0 in pool play and clinched the number one seed going into elimination play.

    Their win set them up with a semifinal showdown with Ashland American Friday in Prestonsburg. A win would have sent them to the championship game.

  • Lebanon woman indicted for murder after deadly car crash

    Tabitha K. Hutchison, 26, of 218 Chestnut Street in Lebanon was indicted in Marion Circuit Court Monday, July 20, on charges of murder, two counts of first-degree assault, DUI and other charges after she allegedly caused a vehicle accident that killed an unborn baby.

    On July 14, the Lebanon Police, the Marion County Rescue Squad and Marion County EMS responded to a call of an accident at the intersection of Warehouse Road and W. Main Street at 2:32 p.m.

  • Lady Knights about to dig in

    According to Marion County High School volleyball Head Coach David Hibbard, the 2009 edition of the Marion County High School Volley Knights will be competitive and exciting to watch. He said the Knights will be a cohesive unit that scraps and plays great team defense in defense of their district crown.

  • Lebanon man gets 10 years for burglary, other charges

    Wesley Spalding, 22, of 160 Joe Drive in Lebanon was sentenced to 10 years in prison after his probation was revoked for failing to complete drug court. Spalding's probation was on original charges of second-degree burglary (two counts), theft by unlawful taking over $300 (three counts), first-degree criminal mischief and first-degree fleeing and evading. He received credit for 210 days served. In other circuit court matters:

  • Severe thunderstorm watch for Aug. 4

    The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for several Kentucky counties, including Marion County. The watch is in effect until 8 p.m. The weather service is predicting that showers and thunderstorms are likely during the late afternoon, with a high near 86 degrees and five mile per hour winds from the south. The weather service is forecasting that more showers and thunderstorms are likely after 2 a.m. The chance of participation is 60 percent.

  • Getting the word out about underage drinking

    It was refreshing to see the guest column in the July 15 edition of The Lebanon Enterprise by Brooke Lee. She expressed very well what some students in our community are trying to accomplish to reduce underage drinking. Many people think the problem of underage drinking in Marion County is minimal or doesn't exist. But, talk to teenagers, they will tell you that it goes on all the time.

  • Attorney General announces scam alert

    The Attorney General's office issue the following consumer alert July 21:

    Attorney General Jack Conway today warned consumers who have purchased classified ads in newspapers that they could be targeted by scam artists and should not give out personal information over the phone.

    "We've received complaints from a couple of classified advertisers that someone claiming to be from the newspaper is contacting them asking for credit-card information and Social Security numbers," General Conway said.
