  • Bardstown to be the home of new national call center

    The City of Bardstown, Nelson County Fiscal Court and the Bardstown Industrial Development Corporation are pleased to announce that SYKES Enterprises will operate their newest state-of-the-art call center in Bardstown.

    SYKES Enterprises, headquartered in Tampa, Fla., will operate a call center for a major telecommunication company in the Kentucky Home Square Shopping Center in the site formerly home to Winn Dixie.

  • Former Wildcat to take over as offensive coordinator

    Former Kentucky Wildcat standout wide receiver Craig Yeast signed on to be the offensive coordinator for the Marion County High School football team last week. He becomes the second former Wildcat to pace the sidelines for the gridiron Knights. Anthony Epps, a former basketball Wildcat, is also an assistant coach for the Knights. Yeast says the process of leaving Lincoln County to come here started after a seven on seven between Lincoln County and Marion County.

  • 'A good man's gone', revisted

    "A good man's gone" That was the headline of my father's column on the opinion page in the April 8, 1981 edition of The Lebanon Enterprise. It was about his buddy, John Sheperson, who he referred to as "Shep," who had been working as a Kentucky State Trooper in Marion County for 11 years and had been promoted to sergeant, which meant he would be working in Morehead instead of Marion County.   • Flying high again

    At a time when the economy isn't exactly stellar, it's nice when something gives a boost to the local economy. Three years ago, the Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission recruited a model jet show to the Lebanon-Springfield Airport. The event has grown every year, and the 2009 Jets Over Kentucky show was the biggest one yet. More than 100 pilots (representing all 50 states and England) brought nearly 200 model planes and attracted thousands of visitors to the area during the showcase. The show itself expanded as well.

  • Former KSP sergeant and police chief dies

    John Sheperson, a retired Kentucky State Police sergeant and a former Lebanon Police Chief, died Sunday, July 5, after a battle with cancer. Sheperson, 64, of Gravel Switch was a United States Air Force Veteran with a 26-year career in law enforcement. He retired from the Kentucky State Police on July 31, 1988, as a sergeant from Post 15. He left KSP and went to work for the Lebanon Police Department. He was hired as a patrol officer in Lebanon in 1989, and promoted to sergeant in 1991.

  • Lebanon police investigating string of burglaries and criminal mischief

    Tuesday, June 30, appears to have been a busy day for a criminal or two in Marion County. Several businesses were victims of burglary and criminal mischief that particular day, and Lebanon Police Chief Shelton Young doesn't think the string of crimes were a coincidence. "I think there is a strong probability that it was all connected to the same person or group of persons," Young said. "There is a common thread there.

  • MCHS to host football camp and parents meeting

    Marion County High School Football Head Coach Jeff Robbins recently announced that the team would be hosting a youth camp from July 13 through 16 at the high school. Registration can be handled at the door. The camp will last from 10 a.m. to noon each day. Cost to attend the camp is $30.

    Robbins also said a parents meeting will be held July 12 at 4 p.m. at the high school fitness center. Topics will cover the upcoming season, fundraising, schedule and information for the entire season.

  • Boyle County firefighters being investigated for arson

    Three members of the Boyle County Fire Department and one former department member confessed to involvement in setting 12-14 fire during the last 18 months, Boyle County Fire Chief Donnie Sexton announced during a press conference July 8 in Danville. Sexton said eight fires are being investigated in Boyle County and five are under investigation in Marion County, according to The Danville Advocate-Messenger. The names of the firefighters have not been released, but evidence will be presented to the Boyle County Grand Jury.
