  • Meth lab found on Country Club Drive

    Kentucky State Police Drug Task Force members cleaned up a meth lab found July 2 at 529 Country Club Drive. William Jordan Mattingly, 25, of 529 Country Club Drive was arrested on a charge of first-degree manufacturing methamphetamines, which is a Class B felony. Mattingly and a woman, Carrie Mitchell, 33, of Brookhaven were taken to Spring View Hospital for treatment. Probation and parole officers Samuel Clements and Tammy Kimbler dropped by the house Thursday morning.

  • All-Stars win out

    The Marion County 11 and 12-year-old girls softball all-stars went 3-1 in pool play and went on to win the district tournament in Columbia over the holiday weekend. They will now move on to compete in the state tournament, which will begin July 18 in Prestonsburg.

    The nine and 10-year-old girls went 2-2 in pool play and made it to the district semi finals.

  • 11-12 All-Stars win first round of district tourney

    Lincoln Haydon homered with two outs in the top of the sixth and those runs held up as Marion County's 11-12-year-old All-Stars beat Russell County 2-0 in the opening round of the District Tournament in Campbellsville on Monday night.

    Haydon was great with the bat, but Robbie Spalding's arm stifled Adair most of the night. Spalding gave up three hits and didn't allow a base on balls. He fanned seven.

    Jeremy Morris, besides scoring the winning run, had one other safety in the game.

    Marion will play Adair County at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

  • Eight Highway Deaths During July 4th Holiday Weekend

    Preliminary statistics indicate that eight people died in eight separate crashes on Kentucky roadways during the four-day July 4th Holiday period, Thursday, July 2 (6 p.m.) through Sunday, July 5, (11:59 p.m.)

    Four of the fatalities involved motor vehicles and none of those victims were wearing seat belts. Motor vehicle crashes occurred in Bullitt, Clark, Davies and Mercer counties. Two of the crashes involved the suspected use of alcohol.

  • Jets Over Kentucky underway

    Jets Over Kentucky is back at the Lebanon-Springfield Airport.

    The event opened to pilots of the model jets Sunday, and it will be open to the public Friday, July 10, through Sunday, July 12. The public events begin at 9 a.m. Friday. A parade of lights will take place Friday evening at dark. More public displays will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 11, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 12.     The county clerk's office is responsible for many things other than renewing automobile tags and registering voters.

    Marion County Clerk Karen Spalding submitted the following information about things the public may not know that goes on in her office on a daily basis.

    For example, if you purchase a vehicle outside of Marion County, you should request that the dealer send the title work to Marion County so the tax money will be used in your home county and by Marion County Fiscal Court.

  • Mail scam reported locally

    Marion County residents are encouraged to be aware of a mail scam that has been reported in the community.  Lebanon resident Paula M. Tichenor reported receiving a letter last week claiming to be from "Hallmark Marketing and Research Management Inc." of New York, NY. The letter reads that the recipient was seeking to make extra income. The recipient is then asked to send a money order at a Money Gram location. The letter includes a "Customer Service Evaluation Tool" and what appears to be a cashier's check.

  • CKTS swimmers finish fourth

    The CKTS hosted the Brent Cochrane Invitational Swim Meet on June 27-28 in Campbellsville. The CKTS swimmers finished fourth out of 10 teams with 911 points. Placing first, second, and third were: Georgetown Scott County, Telford of Richmond and the Lexington Dolphins. Other teams competing were: RACE, SKY, Pennyrile, Frankfort, TNT and Highbridge Aquatics.

  • J is for July and Jets

    Jets Over Kentucky has gone from being a two-day event to a week-long affair this year, beginning Sunday, July 5, and continuing through Sunday, July 12. The event opens officially for the public, however, on Friday, July 10.

    According to event organizers, Jets Over Kentucky has the potential to become the largest radio-controlled jets event in the world.
