  • Lady Knights limp out of district play

    The Marion County High School Lady Knights softball team (13-14) went into last week with the ability to control their own destiny and win their way out to gain the number one seed in the upcoming 20th District tournament.

    Instead, they lost back-to-back games to teams they had previously beaten to fall all the way to a number three seed in the tournament.

    "We weren't mentally ready to play in either game," Lady Knights Head Coach Trent Milby said.

  • New diplomas will recognize extra effort

    In a few weeks, the class of 2009 will receive their diplomas from Marion County High School during the annual graduation ceremony. A few select students will be recognized again for exceeding the minimum graduation requirements to earn the Commonwealth Diploma.

    But MCHS administrators believe more students deserve recognition. And starting with the class of 2010, MCHS students will have the opportunity to earn one of four different diplomas.

  • Local Chrysler dealer here for its customers

    Chrysler LLC will be filing for bankruptcy and beginning a corporate alliance with Fiat SpA, an Italian automotive company.

    Chrysler will file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy under the direction of the U.S. Treasury Department, according to information on the company's corporate website.

    Meanwhile, Pickerill Motor Company in Lebanon will remain open for business.

    Pickerill Motor is the only new car dealership in Marion County, and it has been a Chrysler dealership since 1934. It sells new vehicles by Chrysler and its affiliated brands, Dodge and Jeep.

  • The "Unpredictables" finish strong

    The Marion County High School baseball team earned the moniker "The

    Unpredictables" after a strong yet surprising finish in regular season district play.

    Stocked with young players, the Knights (10-9) showed their range of unpredictability by getting blown out at home by a team they previously competed well with, blowing out a team that squeezed by in their previous meeting and avenging a home loss by winning at a place they rarely win at.

  • MCHS prom king and queen announced

    Troy Bright and Madison Beach were crowned Marion County High School's prom king and queen at prom recently.

  • Knights flex muscles in HAC

    Cyrus Moslemi strikes again. Moslemi, who was unveiled by Washington County in their regular season match against Marion County, destroyed the Heartland Athletic Conference tournament competition last week to claim the singles crown.

    Moslemi beat three opponents in two straight sets, winning 6-0 each time. No player in the field was able to put a game on Moslemi.

    Moslemi took out Jordan Culver in the second round and Joseph George in the final round en route to victory. He is likely the number one seed heading into the region tournament.

  • Tech center project to break ground Aug. 10

    November 2010 - that is the estimated completion date for the $5 million addition/renovation project at the Marion County Area Technology Center. The project inched one step closer to completion last week when the Marion County Board of Education approved the design and development documents for the project, as well as the BG-2 and BG-3 applications.

    Those documents are not final, however, until the Kentucky Department of Education gives its stamp of approval.

  • Track team fine-tunes before HAC

    The Marion County High School track team had a good showing during the Bardstown All-Comers meet last Thursday while getting ready to host the Heartland Athletic Conference (HAC) meet on Tuesday.

    MCHS hosted the HAC meet on Tuesday starting at 5:30. Results from the meet can be found at www.lebanonenterprise.com.

    MCHS will also host the region track meet on May 16. The events kick off at 11 a.m. and will conclude sometime around 4 p.m.

  • Simmons claims singles crown

    Leanna Begley may have lost but it was still a dream come true.

    Begley faced teammate Kameron Simmons in the singles final of the Heartland Athletic Conference tournament last week in a match up they've both dreamed of.

    "Kameron told me that when she and Leanna were young tennis players they used to dream that one day they would be playing in the finals of the conference tournament. This year their dream came true. I'm extremely proud of them," Lady Knights Head Coach Angela Holt said.

  • Fiscal court meeting at 4 p.m. today

    The Marion County Fiscal Court is scheduled to meet in regular session at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 7, at the David R. Hourigan Government Administrative Building.

    The agenda for the meeting is as follows:

    - Minutes of previous meeting

    - MCHS FFA student presentation and demonstration

    - Open sealed bids for fuel, lubricants, and road materials for 2009-10 fiscal year

    - Emergency warning system maintenance agreement

    - Agreement with the Administrative Office of the Courts for 2009-10
