  • Lady Knights featured on ESPN.com

    Recently, local hoopsters were featured on one of the most prestigious sports websites in the land: ESPN.com.

    Three Lady Knights - Makayla Epps, Kyvin Goodin-Rogers and Bre Elder - were featured on the ESPN.com HoopGurlz section.

    HoopGurlz columnist Mark Lewis attended the Raatz Fence Classic in Louisville in late January. Sports fans will recall that the Lady Knights participated in that tournament, along with several other elite teams from around the state. The Lady Knights fell to Sacred Heart 58-38.

  • Lady Knights capture third straight district title

    The Marion County High School Lady Knights (25-6) basketball team didn't surprise many when they reeled off their third straight 20th District tournament championship over Adair County on Friday night at Adair County. The Lady Knights won 63-45 over Adair County.

  • Lady Knights look to advance

    The Marion County Lady Knights looked to advance out of the first round of the 5th Region tournament for the first time in three seasons on Tuesday night against North Hardin.

    Under Head Coach Trent Milby, the Lady Knights have fallen in the first round of the region tournament by a combined seven points in the previous two seasons. The Lady Knights looked to break that streak on Tuesday night. Results were not known at press time.   • Keeping the Legacy Alive

    The Rev. Dr. Joseph Owens turned to his audience Saturday evening to talk about black history, and he said that meant talking about God.

    "There is no way our people could go through what we've been through without God," Owens said.

    More than 200 people listened as Owens spoke at St. Augustine Parish Hall during the ninth annual Black History Celebration hosted by the Women of Color.

  • Crume takes head coaching position

    The Marion County High School football team will be short at least one coach for now. Offensive Coordinator Corey Crume, who's been with the team for the last two years, accepted a head coaching position on Thursday of last week with Southern High School in Louisville.

  • MCHS to host boys 5th Region tournament

    Marion County High School landed a good year to host the boys 5th Region basketball tournament. With over half the field with a legitimate shot at winning the title and earning a trip to the state tournament, it could result in a week of capacity crowds and last possession games.

    North Hardin, Taylor County, Adair County, Bardstown and John Hardin could all be seen as serious contenders to earn a trip to Rupp Arena. LaRue County brings a stellar record but has struggled against some of the teams in the tournament field. Here's a look at the schedule.

  • MCHS academic team headed to regional competition

    The Marion County High School Academic Team is on a winning streak that began four years ago, and may carry them to state competition in the Kentucky Association of Academic Competition's Governor's Cup.

    The team has advanced to regional competition as winners of the 20th District for the fourth straight year. For the first time ever, each student advanced in every area in which they competed. Coaching the team since 2006 is David Cox who teaches science and Susan Crum-Cox, who teaches art.

  • Scott and Bradshaw receive inaugural Garrett scholarship

    After winning their first district tournament title since 2004, the good news keeps coming for two seniors on the Marion County High School volleyball team.

    Rosanna Scott and Kristen Bradshaw have been announced as winners of the first ever Heather Garrett Memorial Scholarship.

    Scott is the daughter of Dr. Brian and Lorraine Scott. She currently has a 4.0 G.P.A. and scored a 30 on the ACT test. She plans to attend the University of Louisville and is undecided on her major.

  • Cadillac Cue can stay open

    Cadillac Cue, a pool hall on W. Main Street in Lebanon, is typically open from 3 p.m. to 3 a.m., according to owner Jamie Bohannan.

    A Lebanon city ordinance requires that any place with pool tables to close between midnight and 6 a.m. daily and to be closed on Sundays. Lebanon Police Chief Shelton Young brought this to the attention of the Lebanon City Council during a special called meeting last Friday.

  • Get a head start on the garden with seed starting

    Starting seeds indoors turns out to be a necessary skill if you want success with some crops. A few need a bit of a head start in order to reach maturity at the right time for Kentuckiana gardens.

    Other considerations include ideal growing conditions.

    Cabbage, for example, can be started early so you can set them out as plants as soon as possible. The goal is to get an early harvest before our summer temperatures soar and the plants bolt and get bitter.
