    Last week was significant as the first piece of legislation for the 2013 General Assembly was signed into law.

    Early last month, just a few days into the 2013 Regular Session, Governor Beshear and numerous state legislators from both parties gathered in support of a major building initiative for many of our public four-year universities.

  • 5th region tournament

    The Marion County Lady Knights now know who their first round opponent in the regional tournament will be.  Marion County drew Washington County and the two teams will play each other Thursday night at 8:00 PM at Green County High School.  The semifinals will be on Sunday March 3 at 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM, with the finals being on Tuesday March 5 at 7:30 PM.

     

  • Lady Knights claim district title

    On Saturday night, the Marion County Lady Knights basketball team continued its streak of perfection with a 72-41 win over Adair County in the championship game of the 20th district tournament to improve to 32-0 on the season.  Marion County jumped out to an early 15-0 lead, and cruised to the easy victory.  Makayla Epps led all scorers with 19 points followed by Kyvin Goodin-Rogers with 13 and Patrice Tonge with 10 points.

     

  • Tomorrow is the deadline to sign up for McDonald’s All-American game bus trip

    Editor's note: On March 7, the Marion County Fiscal Court approved allowing Magistrates Larry Caldwell, John Arthur Elder III and Steve Masterson to contribute $200 each toward the cost of the bus trip.

    Marion County fans who would like to watch Lady Knights senior Makayla Epps play in the 2013 McDonald’s All-American game have an opportunity to sign up for an travel package that includes a bus trip, a ticket to the game, and an overnight hotel stay.

    The deadline to sign up for the bus trip has been extended until March 9.

  • Lady Knights overpower Taylor County

    The Marion County Lady Knights basketball team advanced to the championship game of the 20th District Tournament by defeating Taylor County on Thursday night. Marion County was led by Makayla Epps with 19 points and Kyvin Goodin-Rogers with 14 points. After leading 30-2 at the end of the first quarter, Marion County went on to win by a final score of 65-26.

  • Fiscal court to meet today, Feb. 21

    The Marion County Fiscal Court is scheduled to meet at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at the David Hourigan Government Building.

    The agenda for today's meeting is as follows:

    - Minutes of the previous meeting

    - Annual allocation for Loretto youth softball league

    - Marion County Relay for Life presentation seeking court sponsorship

    - Review Code Red storm warning service

    - Review county employee job descriptions for CDL/road/sanitation/other

    - Department reports

    - Payment of bills

  • Happy 30th birthday, Kara

    This morning at 6:09 a.m., Sheila and Dale Tingle released balloons into the sky to honor their daughter’s birthday. It’s the exact time their daughter was born 30 years ago, and it's something they’ve done every year since she went missing on July 17, 2010.
    Kara was last seen on Beechfork Loop Road in Gravel Switch. She was driving a family member's car that was found two days later on the Bluegrass Parkway.
