  • Come and See Week

     The Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand, Ind., invite single Catholic women ages 18-40 who have ever considered being a nun, to come live the life with us for a weeklong experience June 27-July 3. This Come and See Week will give participants an in-depth look at their life. Those who come will experience prayer, work and recreation. There will also be retreat time for personal prayer and faith sharing.     Father’s Day Jam

    There will be a Father’s Day Jam from 6-11 p.m. Sunday, June 15, at the V.F.W. post in Lebanon. There will be three DJ’s, DJ Cool, DJ Brown the Entertainer and Bardstown’s Finest DJ Ronnie G. There will be a free CD giveaway and chances taken for door prizes.

  • Mock Avenue man gets 20 years for burglary

     Eugene H. Owens, 38, of 237 Mock Avenue Apt. 2 in Lebanon was sentenced to 20 years in prison in Marion Circuit Court recently for second-degree burglary, receiving stolen property (firearm), second-degree persistent felony offender, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. 

    That sentence will be served consecutively to his five-year sentence for charges of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and third-degree burglary, for which his probation was revoked.

  • Police Log, June 11

     May 25 – The Marion County Board of Education reported that theft by unlawful taking over $500 occurred at 408 St. Rose Road. A Dell laptop computer, valued at $1,000, was reported stolen.

  • Engagement: Batista and Burdette

     Scheila and Alexandre Batista of Vitoria, Brazil announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Gabriella Santos Batista, to Chase Summers Burdette, son of Lewis and Debbie Burdette of Lebanon.

    Batista is the granddaughter of Jocelina Santos and Cesar Batista, both of Vitoria, Brazil. 

    Burdette is the grandson of Patricia Violette Burdette of Lebanon.

  • Engagement: Cowherd and Roston

     Mr. and Mrs. George Cowherd of Springfield announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Mary Josephine “T.K.” Cowherd, to Ernest William Roston of Lebanon.

    The wedding is set for 3 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2014, at the KC Hall on S. Spalding Ave, Lebanon.

  • Engagement: Hedges and Young

     Jamie and Brenda Hedges of Little Rock announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter Ashley, to John Michael Young, son of Johnny and Karen Young of Springfield.

    Hedges attends Eastern Kentucky University. Young is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and is employed by Big Ass Fans in Lexington.

    The wedding will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014, at St. Rose Catholic Church in Springfield.

     Brenda South and Joe Sapp, both of Lebanon, announce their forthcoming marriage.

    South is the daughter of Barbara South and the late Ben Smith.

    Sapp is the son of Charles Sapp and the late Ruth Sapp.

    The wedding will take place at 5:30 p.m. June 14, 2014, at Marion County Sportsman’s Club.
