Donald Smith is no longer the superintendent of Marion County Public Schools.

Michael Mullins, the chairman of the Marion County Board of Education, made the announcement following an executive session during the board's Jan. 25 meeting at Calvary Elementary School.

Upon returning to open session, Mullins said the board members had a copy of a proposed severance agreement and release between the board and Smith, which terminated Smith's contract with Marion County Schools.

The board voted unanimously to approve the agreement.

Marion County schools are closed Monday, Jan. 24, due to road conditions.

The National Weather Service is predicting a chance of snow before 10 a.m., a chance of snow and rain between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and a slight chance of rain after 1 p.m. The high temperature will be around 43 degrees, and the chance of precipitation is 30 percent, according to the weather service.

The weather service is predicting a low around 33 degrees tonight with a 40 percent chance of precipitation.

The Marion County Fiscal Court is scheduled to meet in regular session at 4 p.m. today.
