  • Letter to the editor - Nov. 6, 2013

    Remembering our children
Every year across the United States and around the world, families must deal with the holiday season after the unthinkable has happened — the death of a precious child.

  • The Caring Place needs support

On Nov. 22, 1992, The Caring Place opened its doors to women and children who were abused by their loved ones. Since that time, 6,000 people from Marion, Taylor, Nelson, Washington, Adair, Jefferson, LaRue and other counties have received services from our shelter. From the beginning, the outpouring of generosity and commitment from this community had exceeded our wildest dreams. We received cards and letters of encouragement and recognition from city and county officials, schools, businesses and churches.

  • Letter: Domestic Terrorism

The 9/11 terrorist attack on this country was diabolical and expensive. But far, far more costly than the 3,000 American lives and three buildings lost that day was the subsequent cost … 6,735 young American kids that died on the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan (so far) and the trillion dollar-plus  that it cost to prosecute that war.

  • Letter: The power of humanity

Consider the quotes and the statements below:

  • Letter: Elected leaders – deliver or depart
  • Letter: Post Office anniversary event was enjoyable

I thoroughly enjoyed the 100th anniversary of the post office building in Lebanon and wish everyone could have been there. The pictures showing the progress of the building and its growth from 1911 to 1913 were fascinating! I hope that all builders took pictures back then and still do this today!

  • Letter: Ham Days shuttle buses

We are writing this letter in regard to the Ham Days celebration as we have attended for several years and enjoy it so much. But, this year we were surprised that the shuttle buses had been done away with. They are a great asset to helping the elderly in getting to the celebration without having to contend with the traffic.

It is wonderful that the idea of Ham Days started in 1969.

    Keep up the good work.

    Rev. and Mrs. Ron Moroni

    Senator Higdon is wrong

  • Letters to the editor - Sept. 25, 2013

The dream act opens a door

I join social service workers, people of all faith traditions, and concerned citizens in urging real comprehensive and fair immigration reform. Members of all political parties agree that our immigration system is broken. Now is the time to fix it.

  • Letter to the Editor - Pipe Dreams II

Recently, I attended a presentation by Williams and Boardwalk before the state natural resources and environmental committee. The program began with an overview of their dream pipeline project by three company representatives. Predictably, this consisted of how much they care about safety, the environment, and how happy landowners will be with their pipeline and their perpetual relationship with the Williams and Boardwalk empire and whoever follows them.
