  • A vacation adventure in The Gorge

“Celebrate we will, cause life is short but sweet for certain.”

    - Dave Matthews Band

Life is short, but it can be very sweet.

  • Letter: Job well done
  • Letter: Youth rally was ‘amazing’

I want to commend the people of Marion County that helped make the Heart of Kentucky Youth Rally possible. The Fiscal Court for allowing us the opportunity of having the roadblock and the folks who gave. The tourism commission for being so helpful and their support. It was all about uplifting our Lord and Savior and sharing Him with others. God blessed us with an awesome weekend with amazing Christian music and the word of the Lord.

    May God bless.

  • Letter: Cattlemen are there to help
  • Letter: Working on 2012 county fair

Now that the 2011 fair week is behind us, the Marion County Fair Board has been diligently accessing how this year’s fair was compared to previous years and how we can improve in the future. This year our attendance was down a little from previous years and expenses have increased, but local participation in some events was up. We didn’t do as well as we have in the past, but we look forward in our planning for next year’s fair.

  • Changes are coming

Marion County voters should expect changes next year.

The Marion County Fiscal Court is in the process of changing the boundaries of its magisterial districts, and as a result, thousands of voters may find themselves voting in a different precinct in 2012. (Perhaps it’s fortunate for county officials that they aren’t up for election until 2014.)

Writer Garrison Keillor once said that "All wars in the U.S. have been controversial from the very beginning."

    So true.

  • 9-11 still lingers in our memories

Certain events burn themselves into our memories.

Depending on your age, you may remember vividly where you were when you learned about the attack on Pearl Harbor, the assassinations of John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr., and the space shuttle Challenger explosion.

I suspect for most people old enough to remember, Sept. 11, 2001, has become one of those enduring memories as well.
