A close shave
Last Sunday afternoon, just this side of Coon Hollow, the engineer on the south bound accommodation train, upon coming round a sharp curve, discovered a man lying by the track with his neck across one of the rails. He blew the whistle and reversed the engine at once, but the distance was so short that the engine stopped within six inches of the man’s neck. He proved to be an Irishman employed at a distillery nearby, who was intoxicated and had lain down and gone to sleep.

Celebration of Commencement Weekend at WKU continued May 11 as The Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky celebrated the graduation of its Class of 2013.
Sixty-nine students representing 51 counties from across the Commonwealth were recognized during the ceremony in Van Meter Hall. The ceremony honored the Gatton Academy’s sixth graduating class.  
Gatton Academy students take advanced coursework in mathematics, science and other subjects completing both their high school and Gatton Academy requirements.

The streets of Lebanon are stained with different colors from Saturday’s Color in Motion 5K. It’s likely many Kentuckians, including hundreds of Marion Countians, are also sporting some colorful residue on different parts of their bodies after participating in the fun event. Heck, some of our four-legged friends probably have some colorful coats, too, after tagging along during the 3.1-mile route, which included color stations where runners were doused with red, orange, purple, green, blue and yellow powdered paint.
