Letter to the editor - Backyard...

Backyard chicken eggs are the best. Too bad our city council is too closed minded as to allow people to have a few chickens in their yard. The ordinance they adapted was hastily done, politically motivated, drafted without any consideration of responsible pet owners, as they refused to let us in on the "debate" while at the same time allowing the HSUS to draft the ordinance.

Impressed with Turtleman
The day I met the Turtleman was absolutely the best day of my life. I’ll have to admit I was very skeptical at first. So many people I have met have let me down.
But I can assure you he is the real deal. He reminds me so much of my dad, who died when he was 49. I have not found anyone I have fully trusted or loved so much since then. He loved the outdoors and was the best role model a kid could have.

Couple celebrates anniversary

 

Tommy and Judy Blandford will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary June 8, 2013. They were married on June 8, 1963 at St. Francis Xavier Church. They are the owners of Blandford’s Store in Raywick. They have four children: Joe, Jennifer, Jamie (deceased) and Jill. They have 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Divine brothers head to Junior...

High school track season may have ended, but competition continues for Brooks and Ty Divine. Both boys participated in the USATF (USA Track & Field) Kentucky Association meet on Saturday, June 1, at the Christian Academy of Louisville.
Ty competed in the “youth” division and Brooks in the “young men” division. Both boys met the qualifications to advance to the regional meet in Michigan in July. The results were as follows:

May 23
– The City of Lebanon reported third-degree criminal mischief at Fairgrounds Road. The city reported that four video cameras valued at $150 were damaged. The total damage of $250 included $100 in labor to install the cameras.

May 25
– China King Restaurant reported third-degree burglary at 791 W. Main Street. The restaurant reported that $300 cash had been stolen.

Lebanon man has drug charges...

Charges of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance and second-degree persistent felony offender were dismissed against Anthony Tyrone Graves, 43, of 65 Sunrise Drive in Lebanon. However, those charges were dismissed because of another indictment against Graves.
Graves was indicted Jan. 10 on charges of trafficking in a controlled substance first or second offense (4 grams or more) and second-degree persistent felony offender.

DREAM BIG - FIGHT BIG - HOPE BIG

Marion County held its 17th annual Relay for Life event Friday and Saturday at Lebanon Middle School. This year's event raised more than $51,500, a considerable increase from last year’s total, which was approximately $40,000. Team money and donations are still coming in and can be turned in to add to this year's team totals. Contact Liz Lawson or Lisa Sandusky to turn in any further donations.

Mobile History Vehicle at the...

The Marion County Public Library is hosting the Mobile History Vehicle this afternoon, June 18.  

The Kentucky Historical Society brought the vehicle to the library. This interactive exhibit is fund for kids and aduts.

Tourism budget projected to...

The Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission is anticipating it will have resources of more than $593,000 during the 2013-14 fiscal year.
According to the proposed budget, which was approved June 10, the tourist commission is anticipating $290,000 in restaurant tax revenue and $40,000 from hotel taxes during the next fiscal year.
The commission approved the budget, 5-0. Commissioners Joe Hickey and Nancy Higdon were not present for the June 10 meeting.
