Tennis opens regional tournament

Three Lady Knights and four Knights advanced past the first round in the regional tennis tournament that started Friday at Freeman Lake Courts in Elizabethtown. The second round matches were scheduled to begin Monday, and second round results will be in next week’s issue.
In girls singles, Alyssa Farmer advanced by defeating Bardstown’s Selena Spencer, 6-1, 6-3.  Marion County’s Allie Evans fell to Bethlehem’s Abby Moore, 6-4, 6-3.

Hamilton graduates from Gatton...

Celebration of Commencement Weekend at WKU continued May 11 as The Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky celebrated the graduation of its Class of 2013.
Sixty-nine students representing 51 counties from across the Commonwealth were recognized during the ceremony in Van Meter Hall. The ceremony honored the Gatton Academy’s sixth graduating class.  
Gatton Academy students take advanced coursework in mathematics, science and other subjects completing both their high school and Gatton Academy requirements.

Lady Knights pick up nine-run...

The Marion County Lady Knights softball team won the only game it played last week, defeating Casey County on April 30. The Lady Knights were scheduled to play Bethlehem on April 29, but that game was cancelled due to wet field conditions.  
With the win, Marion County’s record stands at 17-7.

Spring sports seasons are winding down at Marion County High School as some teams are preparing for the end of the regular season while other teams have already began postseason competition. The tennis and track teams have already completed regional competition and both sports had some athletes qualify for state level competition.

Next Monday will be County Court Day. Let everyone who has stock to sell bring it in. Let those who want to buy stock come in. Let every man who this week borrows and reads his neighbor’s Standard come in Monday and subscribe for it, and let every subscriber whose time is about to expire step in and renew his subscription.

Golf lessons again offered for...

If you want to improve your golf game, and help support the St. Catharine College golf program at the same time, you have that opportunity again this spring. Again, St. Catharine College head coach Joan Rizer will be offering lessons at Bardstown Country Club at Maywood. All proceeds go to the Patriots men’s and women’s golf programs.
The lessons are offered each Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Call Coach Rizer at (502) 507-4777 to set up a time for the lessons.

British soccer camp returns to...

Local soccer players will once again have the opportunity to improve their skills with Challenger Sports at their week-long “British Soccer Camp” from June 24-28. 

The camp will be held at the Marion County soccer fields across the street from the Fairgrounds, 415 Fairgrounds Road in Lebanon.
