Knights baseball games cancelled

The Marion County Knights varsity baseball team was scheduled to play five games this past week. However, due to inclement weather and poor field conditions, no games were played.
The freshman team was able to play a game against Washington County Wednesday, May 8.

Lebanon mayor to give budget address Thursday

Lebanon Mayor Gary Crenshaw will present his annual budget address during a special-called meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at city hall.

During his address, the mayor presents a proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year. This is often revised by the city council before the budget is finalized.

Squirrel, frog seasons are underway

In my last article I mentioned that we were sort of “between” gunning seasons. So, I suggested you try coyote hunting to ease the pain of not shooting!
Since the article came out I was reminded of a couple of other opportunities to hunt!
First, we have an early squirrel season we can take advantage of. It runs from May 18 until June 21 with a daily limit of six and possession limit of 12.

Rise above the haters

 We’ve all heard the quote, "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me."

But, as most of us have learned, words can hurt. They can hurt us deeply. They can hurt much more than a slap in the face or a punch in the gut. They can hurt our spirit. They can hurt us to our core.

I have pondered for a couple of weeks as to whether I should comment on an issue close to my heart, but with the announcement of Chuck Hamilton's sudden retirement, I feel I need to speak up. 

Board to Hamilton: You may be excused

The Marion County Board of Education unanimously voted last week to excuse Superintendent Dr. Chuck Hamilton from attending board meetings for the remainder of his contract, which ends June 30.
Hamilton, who unexpectedly announced his retirement after only two years as superintendent, did not attend the board’s May 14 meeting.

City council, tourist commission holding meetings today

The Lebanon City Council will meet in regular session at 7 tonight at Lebanon City Hall.

The agenda for tonight's meeting includes the following:

- Delegations from Natosha Hayes and Marria Floyd regarding Hoops of Praise, Mary Ann Bright, and Annette Copenhaver.

- Minutes of the April 8, 15, and 17 and May 7 meetings

- Payment of bills

- Department reports

- Old business

- Resolution on municipal road aid agreement with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet

KU customers warned about phone scam

Editor's note: Kentucky Utilities sent the followig press release to warn customers about a recent scam in which a caller asks for payment over the phone.

Kentucky Utilities Company is alerting customers of a recent telephone scam asking customers to pay their bills over the phone. 

The caller claims to be a utility employee and asks for immediate bill payment by credit card or pre-paid money card.  If the targeted customer does not cooperate, the caller threatens to disconnect the person’s electric service.
