McKinney signs with Thomas More College

Katie McKinney recently signed to play volleyball for Thomas More College, the first volleyball player in school history to play D-3.  Pictured are front row from left: McKinney’s mother Mona McKinney, McKinney, and her sister Jeni Hall.  Back row : MCHS Athletic Director Robby Peterson, Assistant Volleyball Coach Jordan Reinle, MCHS Volleyball Coach David Hibbard, Assistant Volleyball Coach Kelly Cowan, and MCHS Principal Stacey Hall.  McKinney was also won the Heather Garrett Memorial Scholarship.

Post 15 Trooper Island Golf Scramble

The 2013 Post 15 Trooper Island Golf Scramble will be held at 10 a.m. Eastern time/9 a.m. Central time June 17 at Lakewood Country Club in Russell Springs. The entry fee for a four-player team is $240. The entry fee includes a cart, lunch and one mulligan per team.
The first-place team will receive four free rounds of golf at The Club at Olde Stone in Bowling Green. The top three teams will receive free entry into the “Big Tournament” (more information at www.biggesttournament.com) and have a chance at more prizes (Hole-in-One and Dixon Challenge).

5K race registration

Sign-ups for the I’m a Dam Runner! 5K Run/Fun Walk in Campbellsville are going on now. The race is scheduled for 9 a.m. and it will start at the U.S Army Corps of Engineers, 544 Lake Road in Campbellsville.
Early registration is $20 for runners and $10 for walkers. Race day registration is $25 for runners and $15 for walkers. Proceeds will benefit The Friends of Green River.

Lady Knights pick up nine-run win over Casey County

The Marion County Lady Knights softball team won the only game it played last week, defeating Casey County on April 30. The Lady Knights were scheduled to play Bethlehem on April 29, but that game was cancelled due to wet field conditions.  
With the win, Marion County’s record stands at 17-7.

Tennis opens regional tournament

Three Lady Knights and four Knights advanced past the first round in the regional tennis tournament that started Friday at Freeman Lake Courts in Elizabethtown. The second round matches were scheduled to begin Monday, and second round results will be in next week’s issue.
In girls singles, Alyssa Farmer advanced by defeating Bardstown’s Selena Spencer, 6-1, 6-3.  Marion County’s Allie Evans fell to Bethlehem’s Abby Moore, 6-4, 6-3.
