Haycraft and Hafley will marry June 22

Lori Haycraft and Corey Hafley of Greensburg announce their engagement.
Haycraft is the daughter of Patty Elmore of Elizabethtown and Phillip and Phyllis Haycraft of Leitchfield.
Hafley is the son of Nancy Hafley of Springfield and Warren and Camilla Hafley of Lebanon.
The ceremony will be Saturday, June 22, at Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Greensburg at 4 p.m.
Family and friends are invited to attend. Invitations will be sent.

Wise to appear on TV show ‘Snapped’ Sunday

The story of how a Campbellsville woman was convicted of killing her husband will be featured on national television Sunday night.
Kathleen Wise, 62, who admitted to killing her husband with an overdose of liquid morphine, will be featured on an episode of "Snapped," which airs on the Oxygen network. The show will air at 9 p.m. and repeat throughout the week.
Wise, formerly of 4203 Bengal Road, is serving life in prison at the Kentucky Correctional Institute for Women after a jury found her guilty during a one-day trial last July.

Lebanon to host Swing for the Cure

From 9 a.m., to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, adrenaline will flow as America’s favorite pastime is played in the name of a good cause — breast cancer awareness.
Swing for the Cure, a series of baseball games, will be held for the first time in Lebanon on June 22-23. The games will primarily be played at Graham Memorial Park, though some games might be held at the Marion County High School.  
“It will fun,” Matt Thompson, the organizer of the event, said.

Cats on the job

I value the guardian behavior of our animals as one is charged to protect the other. We have house cats that are free to go outside; barn cats that mostly hang out in the garage; a companion red heeler mutt who rarely leaves my side; and a Maremma livestock guardian dog (LGD).  Baxter, the LGD, has challenged our thinking in owning dogs. He has reinforced that animals follow their instinct above all else. He is not a pet, rather a worker that is a critical component to keeping our farm alive.

Rough Riders

Like a swarm of hornets on steroids, motors roar.
Rubber slashes at the dirt, which coats everything in its path.
In the war-like chaos, there is silence as a rider launches himself off a mound appropriately referred to as 911.
A grill smolders, a dog pants, a toddler sitting on her dad’s shoulders smiles.
The rider lands, people cheer.
“They make it look easy and so smooth,” Sharon “Sam” Bach of Lebanon said.

Relay for Life is tonight, June 14

This year’s Marion County Relay for Life event begins at 7 p.m., Friday, June 14, at Lebanon Middle School. The event will be held outside, but the gymnasium will be available in case of rain.
That same day, the American Red Cross is holding a blood drive and will be at LMS from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The Relay for Life survivor’s ceremony will begin at 7 p.m., a live auction will be held at 9 p.m., and the luminary ceremony will begin at 10 p.m.

Kentucky girls split with Indiana

Kentucky’s high school all-stars got off to a good start in their annual series with Indiana, thanks to the contributions of a trio of Lady Knights.

Indiana’s girls had a clear size advantage, but Kentucky forced 27 turnovers en route to an 84-78 victory Friday night at Freedom Hall. Indiana earned a split, however, winning Saturday’s game in Indianapolis, 100-86.
