    The Marion County Arts and Humanities Council met Tuesday, July 8, at the Farm Bureau conference room.  The main topic on the agenda was the Arts camp, which began Monday, July 14.

  • Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task forces around the country, including  the Kentucky State Police, launched “Operation Broken Heart” on May 1, a coordinated strike by law enforcement representing more than 3,000 federal, state and local law enforcement agencies--with the sole purpose of arresting as many child predators as possible.

  •  It seems that we have been spoiled: a decade of mostly mild winters has led us to believe that all those border line hardy plants would never get knocked back by a cold winter. Well, I have seen quite a few crape myrtles, figs and French hydrangeas that are struggling to come back on old wood. Fear not, however, because these plants are root hardy and will sprout new growth from the roots.

     The Marion County Cattlemen’s Association held its regular meeting on June 3 at Floral Hall. Dr. Beth Johnson, DVM from the Office of the State Veterinarian, spoke on the topic of calves persistently infected with the BVD virus.

    Father’s Day Jam

    There will be a Father’s Day Jam from 6-11 p.m. Sunday, June 15, at the V.F.W. post in Lebanon. There will be three DJ’s, DJ Cool, DJ Brown the Entertainer and Bardstown’s Finest DJ Ronnie G. There will be a free CD giveaway and chances taken for door prizes.

  •  Scheila and Alexandre Batista of Vitoria, Brazil announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Gabriella Santos Batista, to Chase Summers Burdette, son of Lewis and Debbie Burdette of Lebanon.

    Batista is the granddaughter of Jocelina Santos and Cesar Batista, both of Vitoria, Brazil. 

    Burdette is the grandson of Patricia Violette Burdette of Lebanon.

     This past week two classes were held on basic CPR at the Loretto Senior Center by firefighter Josh Ballard. I attended the class on Monday evening and was very pleased with the technique performed now to help keep one alive until help arrives after the 911 call. Talking to others that were at the Wednesday class said they were very impressed also.
