    What a good week we had with the weather! More rain, some of it of the steady variety, has improved many of our pastures and hayfields. Soybeans and tobacco are looking better, although we have had some get blown down by wind, and corn looks good although we cannot do anything about the corn that didn't pollinate due to the heat.

  • The Kentucky Master Gardener Program is set to begin at the Washington County Extension Office on Wednesday Sept. 5, at 9 a.m. until noon. We will meet each Wednesday morning through mid-November.

  • The Community Food Bank is in need of non-perishable food items. You can drop off items to Gloria Benningfield  at Shear Delite, located  at  118 S. Spalding Avenue or at the food bank, which is located at the side of First Christian Church, across from the Lebanon Post Office. They are open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. till 1 a.m.

  • A new round of shows were announced for the 2012-13 season at Central Kentucky Community Theatre in Springfield.
    Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas,” put on by main stage performers, will show on Nov. 2-4, as well as Nov. 9-11.
    “Peter Pan,” by the Bluegrass Kids, will be on stage Dec. 7-9.
    “Fiddler on the Roof,” performed by the youth actors, will show Jan. 18-20 and Jan. 25-27.
    “Harvey,” performed by the main stage actors, is showing March 8-10 and March 15-17.

    Farmers Market demonstrations
    The Lebanon Farmers Market will have Juanita heron from the Marion County Extension Office presenting summer recipes today, Wednesday June 20, at the downtown pavilion. She will have samples featuring local produce. Market hours are 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday and Saturday and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday. All produce is locally grown.

  • Christina Marie 'Chrissy' Leake and James Carey Broyles of Lebanon announce the birth of an 8-pound, 2-ounce son, James Blade Broyles, born April 6, 2012, at Spring View Hospital, Lebanon.
    Maternal grandparents are Jay Leake and Patty Wethington.
    Paternal grandparents are Beth Murphy and Bill Broyles.
    Great-grandparents are Marzon Pyles and the late Peggy Pyles and Alvin Leake and the late Helen Leake.
    James Blade has two sisters, Dakota Broyles and Gabrielle Lyvers.

  • Brandon Scott Wright and Megan Ann Allen announce the birth of a 6-pound son, Kamren Gage Wright, born June 6, 2012, at Spring View Hospital, Lebanon.
    Maternal grandfather is Petie Allen of Lebanon.
    Paternal grandparents are Melissa Wright of Lebanon and Kelly Daugherty of Raywick.
    Kamren Gage has one sister, Aaliyah Renee Bradshaw.

    Thursday, June 28: Tuna salad, black bean and corn relish, mixed green salad, mandarin oranges, raisins.

    Friday, June 29: Barbeque chicken, corn on the cob, marinated cucumbers, tomatoes and onions, roll, watermelon.
