    French Hydrangeas bloom on old wood

     It seems that we have been spoiled: a decade of mostly mild winters has led us to believe that all those border line hardy plants would never get knocked back by a cold winter. Well, I have seen quite a few crape myrtles, figs and French hydrangeas that are struggling to come back on old wood. Fear not, however, because these plants are root hardy and will sprout new growth from the roots.

     The Marion County Cattlemen’s Association held its regular meeting on June 3 at Floral Hall. Dr. Beth Johnson, DVM from the Office of the State Veterinarian, spoke on the topic of calves persistently infected with the BVD virus.

    Father’s Day Jam

    There will be a Father’s Day Jam from 6-11 p.m. Sunday, June 15, at the V.F.W. post in Lebanon. There will be three DJ’s, DJ Cool, DJ Brown the Entertainer and Bardstown’s Finest DJ Ronnie G. There will be a free CD giveaway and chances taken for door prizes.

    Engagement: Batista and Burdette

     Scheila and Alexandre Batista of Vitoria, Brazil announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Gabriella Santos Batista, to Chase Summers Burdette, son of Lewis and Debbie Burdette of Lebanon.

    Batista is the granddaughter of Jocelina Santos and Cesar Batista, both of Vitoria, Brazil. 

    Burdette is the grandson of Patricia Violette Burdette of Lebanon.

    Senior Fair Day will be July 2

     This past week two classes were held on basic CPR at the Loretto Senior Center by firefighter Josh Ballard. I attended the class on Monday evening and was very pleased with the technique performed now to help keep one alive until help arrives after the 911 call. Talking to others that were at the Wednesday class said they were very impressed also.

  • Deadline to enter pageant is June 11

    Entry forms for the Old Mill Day beauty pageant must be turned in by 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 11. Forms are available at The Country Store, Patches and Superior Food Mart in Bradfordsville.
    Entry forms should be turned at any of the businesses listed above or to Karen Vaughn at 320 Joe Payne Road, Lebanon, Ky. 40033. No phoned entries will be accepted.
    The entry fee is $3 per participant and will be collected on the day of the pageant.

  • Thompson is new commander

    During the May 13, 2014 meeting elections were held. David Thompson was elected the new commander.
    The next meeting of the VFW will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 10.
    Anyone interested in reserving the Post for parties should contact the Commander at (270) 699-2729. Remember, it is important to reserve early to ensure you receive the date you want.

  • Old toys and dolls will be featured...

    Bradfordsville is looking for old toys.
    During this year Old Mill Days festival, June 13-14, an exhibit of old toys and dolls has been planned. Toys or dolls from the 1990s or earlier will be exhibited in the senior citizens room in the old Bradfordsville School.
    Anyone who has a toy he or she would not mind sharing for others to see shouldcontact David Edelen at 270-337-3796. If you have a doll that you would not mind sharing, contact Fay Cochran at 270-337-4666.
