    Gootee is the granddaughter of Hatsy and Libby Mattingly of Loretto and the late Rob and Peggy Gootee of Holy Cross. She is a graduate of Western Kentucky University and is employed as an elementary school teacher.

  • Greg and Ginny Lanham of Lebanon announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Abigail Sue Lanham, to Joseph Alexander Peake, son of Ronnie and Julie Peake of Lebanon.
    Lanham graduated from Campbellsville University with a bachelor's degree in music education.
    Peake graduated from Campbellsville University with a bachelor's degree in communication and is employed by the Marion County Board of Education.
    The wedding is set for 6 p.m. July 7, 2012, at Lebanon Baptist Church. A reception will follow at St. Augustine Parish Hall.

  • St. Joe Prep
    St. Joe Prep Alumni Association All Class Reunion will be held on the weekend of June 29 and June 30. The activities have changed this year to Saturday, June 30 instead of Sunday. There will be a social sock-hop on Friday night at the OKH Country Club with a Mass, social hour, and banquet held on Saturday, June 30. All alumni undergraduates and friends of St. Joe are welcomed.   • Marion County 4-Hers had a blast during their recent week at 4-H Camp. Eighty-four campers, teen leaders, and adults from Marion County travelled to Lake Cumberland 4-H Camp in Jabez from May 28 through June 1. "Celebrating the Super Hero Within You" was the theme of Marion County's week at 4-H Camp. Camp took place during the Memorial Day holiday so campers had the opportunity to reflect on the "super heroes" that served in the armed forces as well as looking within themselves and recognizing their heroic qualities.

    No, I don't mean the Bible, although I read it every day.
    But for now, I'm referring to the newspaper.
    "Ahh, the newspaper," you say. "You mean that old dinosaur of the printed era that's somehow managed to stay alive, despite its shrinking advertising revenue and a dwindling subscriber base?"
    Despite rumors of its demise, the newspaper is surviving and in some instances, thriving.

District Convention to be held for the first time at the Hooper Eblen Center on the campus of Tennessee Tech.

    Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Gravel Switch will have their Vacation Bible School June 20-22 from 6-8:30 p.m. nightly and Sunday, June 24, at 11 a.m. during the morning worship service.     Here are some good recipes for my vegetarian friends. If you're not a meat-eater, you can find yourself without much of a choice at a typical hot dog-hamburger cookout. I always like to have two or three dishes everyone can eat.  

  • The third annual Marion County Dairy Day will be held at 10 a.m., June 23 for all local dairy farmers and their families in the agriculture multi-purpose building on the Marion County Fairgrounds. The event is being held in conjunction with the Marion County Fair Open Dairy Show.
    A meal will be served at 12 p.m. and is being sponsored by the Southeast United Dairy industry Association of Kentucky.

  • I think about food so much this time of the year because vegetables abound. I just came home from working at Courtney Farms in Bagdad with a load of vegetables that will be presented to Community Supported Agriculture subscribers for a weekend gathering of shared experiences and shared food. We are combining our farming efforts to bring food to local families and that includes the pretty things that can be added and eaten in the mix.

  • Cub Scout Camp Day was last week at The Homeplace on Green River. Scouts from Marion County were among show who attended. In the picture, Elijah Kirkland and Evan Curry take part in a bit of bird watching.
