  • Knights win thriller against Nelson County

The Marion County Knights varsity boys basketball team took on the Nelson County Cardinals at the Roby Dome Tuesday of last week and edged out a comeback win with a final score of 52-47.
This was the Knights first game since their win in the Fort Harrod Classic on Dec. 23, a full 12 days ago.
During the first half, the Knights struggled to put points on the board while the Cardinals seemed to be pulling away.

  • Excessive celebration?

First of all, I need to start my column this week with a word of thanks to three people.
This past Friday morning my sister had a minor run in with Mother Nature. As she was driving to school, her car hit a patch of ice and slid into oncoming traffic.
Luckily, the oncoming drivers, which included a school bus, were driving slowly enough to avoid a collision and no one was harmed.
After sliding into the oncoming lane, she headed her car into the nearest parking lot, which happened to be at The Work Connection.

  • Knight basketball history

The Marion County Knights’ basketball program has had its ups and downs over the 41 seasons it has been in existence. To start with, there have been 11 different head coaches, with the longest tenured head coach being Tim Davis who coached the Knights for 12 seasons in the 1980s and 1990s.
A quick look through history will show some of the reasons for the swings in the program’s history.

  • There’s a first time for everything

Okay. So I thought that running in 5K races was going to be the only thing I did for the first time this year.
I completed my first one in Campbellsville in July and my second one, the Pokey Pig, at Ham Days.
    Did I do great?
No not great, but I finished and I was happy with that.

  • It’s beginning to look/sound like Christmas

The big day is near! The weather has certainly done its part to set the season’s mood and people, for the most part, have been…well…nicer.
I’ve heard more people say “excuse me” and “thank you” in the last couple of weeks than since our 2009 Christmas season.
Guess everyone is making a serious move to get on the “good boy/girl” list.
Homes and yards have gone from the dull gray shades of winter to the beautiful lights of the season.
