  • Volleyball players earn All-State honors

    The Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association announced the 2012 All-State Teams Wednesday, with two Marion County Lady Knight volleyball players earning honors. Kyvin Goodin-Rogers and Logan Powell, both seniors, were named to the 2012 KVCA Second-Team All-State (AA). According to Marion County Head Coach David Hibbard, this was the first time ever for Marion County that two players were named to an All-State team.

  • Marion County runs in the Meet of Champions

    The Marion County middle school cross country team members traveled to Lexington to take part in the KTCCCA Meet of Champions, which is the state championship meet for middle school. Several members from Marion County competed against nearly 4,500 kids from all over Kentucky in the meet.  
    Head Coach Daniel Johnson noted that he likes what he sees in the future of Marion County cross country.
    "This was the last meet of the year for our middle school kids," Johnson said. "It was a great season and great building block for the future."

  • Knights fall in regular season finale

    The Marion County High School Knights football team traveled to Lawrenceburg Friday to take on Anderson County on a night where the weather was anything but cooperative. After a string of lopsided defeats, the Knights were able to keep the game close but eventually fell by a final score of 28-12. This ends their regular season with an overall record of 2-8, and the team will travel to Russell County on Friday night for the opening round of the playoffs.

  • Kentucky Premier lands Nike sponsorship

    Kentucky Premier was able to accomplish something that all AAU teams hope to achieve. They are only one of 20 AAU teams in the country to be an official Nike Elite Travel Team. This means that the team will now face top class competition each week, and will now have a chance to win the Nike Nationals, the premier girls AAU tournament, which is held every year. According to Nike, the Kentucky Premier team is the fastest ever to achieve this status.

  • Knights postseason run ends

    The Marion County Knights soccer team got a bye in the opening round of the Fifth Region boys soccer tournament in Nelson County, but lost in the semifinals Oct. 16 to the Central Hardin Bruins, 3-0.
    “We came in with high hopes, but left broken hearted,” Knights Coach Greg Conley said.  “I believe it was a combination of nerves and the turf.”

  • Harriers prepare for regionals

    The Marion County cross country team traveled to the Kentucky Horse Park in Georgetown Saturday to take part in the Lexington Catholic cross country invitational.  
    “It was a great day for racing and we were able to compete against some of the top teams in Kentucky at the state meet course,” Marion County Coach Daniel Johnson said.  “I was glad our kids got to see that kind of environment. I knew it was the biggest race our kids have seen since they’ve been running, but we responded well.”

  • Knights fall to Lexington Catholic

    The Marion County High School Knights struggled in nearly all phases of the game in a 55-6 loss to host Lexington Catholic Friday night. However, the touchdown that Marion County scored in the third period snapped a streak of 11 consecutive quarters of scoreless football.

  • Lady Knights bow out early in regional soccer tourney

    Last Wednesday, the Marion County High School Lady Knights soccer team was hoping to ride the momentum of their first ever district championship win into the regional tournament.
    Instead, the team lost to the Bardstown Lady Tigers, 11-1, in the first round of the regional tournament Oct. 17 at Central Hardin High School.
    After drawing a first round bye, the Lady Knights played their first game in the semifinals of the tournament.  Marion County junior Colleen Rakes sat out the game with a concussion.

  • Lady Knights reach regional semifinals

    Last week, the Marion County Lady Knights hosted and competed in the 5th Region Volleyball Tournament at Marion County High School.
    The Lady Knights defeated their first round opponent, Larue County on Oct. 15. However, in the semifinal round Oct. 17, Marion County fell to Central Hardin, who went on to defeat Green County and win the 5th Region Tournament.  The Lady Knights finished the season 31-7 and 8-0 in the district. Kyvin Goodin-Rogers and Valerie Mattingly were selected to the 5th Region All-Tournament team.

  • Fifth-grader wins race at Green County

    The Marion County cross country team traveled to Green County Saturday to take part in the Green County Invitational. The team had a great showing in the meet and ended up with their first individual winner of the season. Fifth-grader Brianna Mattingly won the elementary school race.  
    "I told the kids before the race that everyone should be faster than they were three weeks ago when we ran the same course," Head Coach Daniel Johnson said.  "I knew it would be a good barometer to see how much we have improved over that time."
