  • Knights fall short in region semifinal game

    The Marion County Knights varsity basketball team traveled to Central Hardin High School to take on the Bardstown Tigers in the semifinals of the regional tournament Monday of last week.
    Despite a major comeback in the second half, the Knights fell short by three points, losing the contest 63-60.

  • So close, yet so far

    The Marion County Lady Knights varsity basketball team played for a state title Saturday evening, an accomplishment that no other girls' team has been able to reach. Last year's team had advanced the farthest up to this point, making it to the final four. With a tough battle sure to follow, the Lady Knights knew they had to be up to a serious challenge. After a 32-minute, knock-down, drag-out battle, the Lady Knights came up just a bit short, and fell to Manual by a final score of 58-54.

  • Knights defeat Green County in a nail biter

    The Marion County Knights varsity basketball team traveled to Central Hardin High School to take on the Green County Dragons in the first round of the 5th Region Tournament Thursday. After taking down the Dragons earlier in the season by 30 points, the Knights found themselves in a close battle that came down to the final minute of the game. Sophomore Latrelle Irvin led the way with 20 points for the Knights in the 50-49 win.

  • Three-Peat

    The Marion County Lady Knights secured their spot in the state tournament with a 56-39 win over Elizabethtown Sunday evening during the 5th Region championship game at Central Hardin High School.
    The Lady Knights jumped out to a 7-0 lead before Elizabethtown could find any offense. Marion County kept expanding their lead, which they held throughout the entire game, until it expanded to its largest of the night at 22 points early in the final frame.

  • Lady Knights heading back to the Sweet 16

    The Marion County Lady Knights are heading to the Sweet 16 for the third time in as many years.

    Marion County (31-4) defeated Elizabethtown, 56-39, to win the Fifth Regional championship for the third year in a row.

    The Lady Knights are scheduled to play the Walton-Verona Bearcats at 2:30 p.m. EST Thursday, March 8, at Diddle Arena on the Western Kentucky University campus in Bowling Green.

    Walton-Verona (29-6) defeated South Oldham, 52-47, in the Eighth Region championship.

  • Basketball games will be played Saturday

    The Lady Knights' basketball game versus North Hardin, which was scheduled for Friday at Central Hardin were postponed  due to potential hazardous weather.

    The game has been rescheduled for 5 p.m., Saturday.

    The championship game will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday.

  • Knights claim district title for the first time since 2000

    For the first time since 2000, the Knights won the 20th District crown Saturday at Taylor County High School.
    They defeated the Taylor County Cardinals on their home court, 67 to 51.
    Sophomore Latrelle Irvin led eight Knights in scoring with 18 points.
    Irvin got the Knights going early with a pair of three-pointers within the first minute. Sophomore Alex Smith added one of his own just 30 seconds later to give Marion County a quick 9-0 lead. The Knights maintained the lead throughout the first period as Irvin scored the final five points for Marion County.

  • Lady Knights win 6th straight district title

    The Marion County Lady Knights won their sixth 20th District Championship in a row, defeating Adair County by a final score of 70-47 Friday evening at Taylor County High School.
    In the opening frame, the Lady Knights took control of the game. After scoring the first six points, the Lady Knights went on to expand their lead to 14 points at one time before finishing the quarter with a 20-8 lead.

  • Marks to be inducted into 5th Region Hall of Fame

    Humble.
    That's one word that could be used to describe long-time coach Danny Marks would be humble.
    Marks was involved in coaching young athletes in Marion County for more than 45 years until his retirement from coaching in February of 2010.
    March 6, he will be inducted into the fifth region Hall of Fame.
    Marks has coached several different basketball teams throughout his tenure and was also involved in baseball and softball programs. Marks has coached more than 200 teams and more than 2,000 athletes during his career.
