  • Headed back to Diddle

    The Marion County Lady Knights made history by becoming the first team, boys or girls, to win four straight 5th region titles Tuesday evening. The Lady Knights defeated LaRue County in the championship game, which was played at Green County High School, by a final score of 82-60. The win secures the Lady Knights a spot in the Sweet 16 beginning March 13 in Bowling Green, and extends their undefeated streak to 35 games.

  • Epps and Goodin-Rogers named finalists for Miss Basketball

    The Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation announced their list of five candidates for the Mr. and Miss Basketball award Wednesday, Feb. 27.  Five boys and five girls made the final cut.  

    Two Marion County Lady Knights have been named to the final list.  Teammates Makayla Epps and Kyvin Goodin-Rogers will join Rebecca Greenwell from Owensboro Catholic, Larryn Brooks from Madison Central, and China Dow from Christian Academy in Louisville.

    First, I want to start my column by saying congratulations to the Marion County High School Lady Knights varsity basketball team on winning the 20th district championship Saturday night. For those of you who don’t know, the Lady Knights cruised to the district title by defeating Taylor County in the first round by 39 points and Adair County in the finals by 31 points, taking their overall record to 32-0.  

  • Lady Knights open regional play Thursday at Green County

    The Lady Knights were paired with the Commanderettes of Washington County for the first round of the 5th Region Tournament. Marion County has defeated Washington County twice this season, both times by at least 51 points. The Lady Knights and Commanderettes will play in the final game of the opening round tomorrow night at 8 p.m. EST at Green County High School.  

  • Knights eliminated in first round of district tourney

    The Marion County High School Knights basketball team headed to Adair County Wednesday to take on the host team in the opening round of the 20th district tournament. After suffering two losses to the Indians during the regular season, the Knights were looking for a win to earn a trip to the regional tournament.  However, the Indians bolted out to an 18-2 lead early on, and the Knights never could recover. Marion County ended up losing the game and ending their season with a 65-45 loss.

  • Milby is national coach of the year

    Marion County High School Lady Knights Head Coach Trent Milby learned Monday that he has been named the 2013 Naismith High School Girls Coach of the Year.
    Milby learned last week that he was a finalist for the award, along with Kevin Kiernan from Mater Dei High School in California, Cathy Self-Morgan from Duncanville High School in Texas and Corey Barrett from Riverdale High School in Tennessee.

  • Seventh Heaven

    The Marion County High School Lady Knights basketball team continued its streak of dominance in the 20th District, by capturing it seventh straight district title Saturday night in Adair County. The Lady Knights advanced to the championship game by defeating Taylor County in the opening round Thursday night by a final score of 65-26. Marion County then topped the host Adair County Lady Indians by a final score of 72-41 to capture the title.

  • 5th region tournament

    The Marion County Lady Knights now know who their first round opponent in the regional tournament will be.  Marion County drew Washington County and the two teams will play each other Thursday night at 8:00 PM at Green County High School.  The semifinals will be on Sunday March 3 at 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM, with the finals being on Tuesday March 5 at 7:30 PM.
