  • Knights fall to Panthers

    The Marion County High School Knights basketball team hosted the Elizabethtown Panthers Dec 18 at the Roby Dome The Knights came into the game riding a three-game winning streak, but could not extend that streak any further, falling to Elizabethtown by a final score of 62-47.

  • Swim team going strong

    The Marion County Aquaknights hosted a swim meet against Nelson County at the Lebanon Aquatic Center Dec. 11. On that night, a pair of school records fell and several members of the Marion County team won their events. Individual results for that meet are as follows:

    As we look back and reflect on the year that has nearly passed us by, we recall some of the most memorable sports moments that occurred over the last 12 months.  Here are 10 of the best.

    10. Tennis teams in state tourney

  • Lady Knights near century mark against Campbellsville

     

    In the Marion County Lady Knights’ game against Campbellsville Dec. 17, the team scored 99 points. With just one more point, the game would have been just the third time the Lady Knights surpassed the century mark. The previous two such instances happened in 2007 and 2008.

    “We really shared the ball and shot the ball very well against Campbellsville,” Marion County Coach Trent Milby said. “I was very pleased with our focus and intensity. All 11 players did an outstanding job.”

  • Football team hands out awards

    The Marion County High School football team held their annual postseason awards banquet recently, and several players were recognized for their performances on the field during the season.

    Michael Walls, Cameron Brown, Vincent Collins, Tyron Sickles, Alex Hyatt, Dakota Newcomb, Ty Furmon, Jack Hagan, Wyatt Cecil, Adam Nalley, Evan Mattingly and Justin Dawson were all awarded as lettermen. All of the previous athletes are now multiple lettermen for the football team.

  • Dragon slayers

    The Marion County High School Knights basketball team had its best week of the season so far. After dropping their opening four games of the season, the Knights made a major turnaround, and are now riding a three-game winning streak.  On Dec. 11, the team hosted Green County and pulled away at the end for their first win of the season, 85-65. Last Thursday, the Knights defeated Casey County at home, 66-54. To round out the week, Marion County picked up their first district win on Friday night when they defeated Campbellsville, 78-63.

  • Lady Knights going strong

    The Marion County High School Lady Knights basketball has an undefeated record, 5-0 overall, 1-0 in district play. They headed to Columbia Dec. 4 to take on Adair County in their district opener. Marion County led 20-8 after one quarter, and went on to win by a final score of 71-38.

  • Knights searching for win

    The Marion County High School Knights basketball team played three games last week but are still looking for their first win of the season.
    “In each of our games we came up short,” Head Coach Montrelle Irvin said. “We are learning each other and we’re trying to find our identity. Each game we our improving and getting a little better, just not as quick as I would like, but we are going in the right direction.”
