  • Firsts at MCHS

    First, I want to start my column by saying congratulations to the Marion County High School Lady Knights varsity basketball team on winning the 20th district championship Saturday night. For those of you who don’t know, the Lady Knights cruised to the district title by defeating Taylor County in the first round by 39 points and Adair County in the finals by 31 points, taking their overall record to 32-0.  

  • Lady Knights open regional play Thursday at Green County

    The Lady Knights were paired with the Commanderettes of Washington County for the first round of the 5th Region Tournament. Marion County has defeated Washington County twice this season, both times by at least 51 points. The Lady Knights and Commanderettes will play in the final game of the opening round tomorrow night at 8 p.m. EST at Green County High School.  

  • Knights eliminated in first round of district tourney

    The Marion County High School Knights basketball team headed to Adair County Wednesday to take on the host team in the opening round of the 20th district tournament. After suffering two losses to the Indians during the regular season, the Knights were looking for a win to earn a trip to the regional tournament.  However, the Indians bolted out to an 18-2 lead early on, and the Knights never could recover. Marion County ended up losing the game and ending their season with a 65-45 loss.

  • Milby is national coach of the year

    Marion County High School Lady Knights Head Coach Trent Milby learned Monday that he has been named the 2013 Naismith High School Girls Coach of the Year.
    Milby learned last week that he was a finalist for the award, along with Kevin Kiernan from Mater Dei High School in California, Cathy Self-Morgan from Duncanville High School in Texas and Corey Barrett from Riverdale High School in Tennessee.

  • Seventh Heaven

    The Marion County High School Lady Knights basketball team continued its streak of dominance in the 20th District, by capturing it seventh straight district title Saturday night in Adair County. The Lady Knights advanced to the championship game by defeating Taylor County in the opening round Thursday night by a final score of 65-26. Marion County then topped the host Adair County Lady Indians by a final score of 72-41 to capture the title.

  • 5th region tournament

    The Marion County Lady Knights now know who their first round opponent in the regional tournament will be.  Marion County drew Washington County and the two teams will play each other Thursday night at 8:00 PM at Green County High School.  The semifinals will be on Sunday March 3 at 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM, with the finals being on Tuesday March 5 at 7:30 PM.

     

  • Lady Knights claim district title

    On Saturday night, the Marion County Lady Knights basketball team continued its streak of perfection with a 72-41 win over Adair County in the championship game of the 20th district tournament to improve to 32-0 on the season.  Marion County jumped out to an early 15-0 lead, and cruised to the easy victory.  Makayla Epps led all scorers with 19 points followed by Kyvin Goodin-Rogers with 13 and Patrice Tonge with 10 points.

     

  • Lady Knights overpower Taylor County

    The Marion County Lady Knights basketball team advanced to the championship game of the 20th District Tournament by defeating Taylor County on Thursday night. Marion County was led by Makayla Epps with 19 points and Kyvin Goodin-Rogers with 14 points. After leading 30-2 at the end of the first quarter, Marion County went on to win by a final score of 65-26.

  • Knights fall in district opener

    On Wednesday night, the Marion County Knights headed to Adair County to take part in the 2013 20th district tournament.  Their opening round opponent would be the host team Adair County.  The Indians controlled the game throughout and came away with the 65-45 win to end the Knights' season.  Latrelle Irvin was the lone Knight to score in double figures with 10 points.  Marion County ends their season with a final record of 11-17.

  • Track clinic rescheduled for March 13 at MCHS

    The USATF track certification clinic scheduled to take place at Marion County High School at 6 p.m., Feb. 25, has been rescheduled due to a scheduling conflict. The clinic will now take place at 6 p.m., Wednesday, March 13.
