  • Local tennis player competes in Alabama

    Alex Spalding, former Marion County High School standout, competed in the nine-state USTA Southern Section Jr. Team Tennis Championship in Alabama recently. His team came very close to qualifying for the national championships. He was 4-0 in singles competition.

  • Football Knights open up with big loss

    The Marion County High School football team headed to Campbellsville University Friday evening to play in the Forcht Bank Bowl for the second straight year. After falling to Russell County 48-21 last year in the same season opening game, the Knights didn't improve any and fell to Evansville Central Bears from Indiana by a final score of 55-16. All 16 of the Knights points came in the fourth quarter when the game was well out of reach.

  • Golf teams are in action

    In recent action the golf teams have taken on Washington County, Taylor County and Campbellsville, and Adair County. The junior varsity team also competed against Adair County.  
    Marion County shot a 176 against Washington County while the Commanders shot a 185. Logan Medley led the way with a 40 followed by Evan Dye with a 43. Trevor Burchell shot a 45 and Casey Lee shot a 48.

  • Knights soccer stays unbeaten

    The Marion County High School boys soccer team has played three games on the young season, and has been able to pick up wins in all three contests. On Tuesday of last week, the team opened up regular season play against district opponent LaRue County on the road. After playing well in the first half and holding a two goal lead at the break, the Knights came out a bit sluggish in the second half and allowed LaRue County to get back in the game.

  • Lady Knights in search of first win

    The Marion County Lady Knights soccer team has played three games this season, and is still in search of their first win. The team has lost a pair of 7-4 decisions and had a tough outing in a 7-0 defeat.
    First year, Head Coach Devin Spalding knows that his team has potential, but is still in search of finding that right combination to collect a win.
    After coming off an impressive 8-1 victory in their final preseason game against Whitley County, the Lady Knights were ready to open up regular season play against Berea on Monday of last week.

  • Lady Knights improve to 4-1

    The Marion County Lady Knights volleyball team competed in three matches last week, winning all three to improve their overall record to 4-1 on the season.  The wins came over LaRue County, Taylor County and Campbellsville.

    The Lady Knights traveled to LaRue County to play their fifth game of the season Thursday night. Marion County was able to take the first two sets, and after losing the third set, battle back to win the match in the fourth set.

  • New concussion guidelines in effect

    Beginning May 1, 2012, House Bill 281 signed into law by Governor Steve Beshear, went into effect. The bill prevents student athletes from continuing to play if they experience a concussion or exhibit symptoms of a concussion. Kentucky was among 19 states petitioned by the National Football League and National Collegiate Athletic Association to support legislation to decrease the number of concussions suffered by student athletes.

  • Knights have rough start

    The Marion County High School football team hosted a preseason scrimmage against Meade County Friday evening. In the game, the Knights had some struggles and came up short against the Green Wave.

    "I guess the most important stat of the night is eight turnovers," Head Coach Jeff Robbins said. "You can't beat anyone with eight turnovers, let alone a good 6A team like Meade County."

  • Forcht Bank Bowl is this weekend in Campbellsville

    CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Four high school football games will highlight the two days of the 2012 Forcht Bank Bowl to be played Friday and Saturday nights (Aug. 17 and 18) at Finley Stadium on the campus of Campbellsville University.
