  • Lady Knight Soccer begins preseason

    Friday evening the Marion County High School girls soccer team began their season with the first of two scrimmages. Their opponent was Mercer County, and the home team dropped the contest 4-0.
    “Collectively, we are not in game shape as a team and we must work harder in practice and become better conditioned,” Head Coach Hart Hagan said.
    From a defensive standpoint, the team isn’t working together as a unit, according to Hagan.

  • Volleyball team goes 2-0 in first week

    The Marion County Lady Knights volleyball team played two matches last week, taking on Campbellsville at home last Tuesday night and playing Nelson County on the road Thursday, going undefeated in their first week of the regular season.  The Lady Knights were able to beat Campbellsville in two sets, taking their overall and district records to 1-0. Marion County also won their match against Nelson County in two sets, pushing their overall record to 2-0.

  • 2011 football season set to begin Friday in Campbellsville

    Marion County High School Head Football Coach Jeff Robbins is expecting this year to be different than any other year he’s been at MCHS.
    “This year, more than any of the previous seven that I have been here, we will rely upon a team effort,” Robbins said. “We have no superstars on the team this year. We do have several solid high school football players and if they will play together, believe in each other, and trust each other they can be very dangerous.”

  • Girls wrap up scrimmage

    The Marion County High School volleyball team kicked off their season last week with three scrimmages, two against Green County and Casey County on Tuesday of last week and the other against Bardstown on Thursday. When asked about his team’s play in the scrimmages, Head Coach David Hibbard said that both scrimmages gave him the chance to see what some of his younger players have and how the team would respond to adversity.

  • Tee Time

    The boys golf team competed in the Taylor County Invitational held at the Campbellsville Country Club Saturday. Head Coach Chad Spalding commented on the teams performance.
    “Joseph Elder was one over through 11 holes before an hour rain delay, and simply lost his momentum after that”, Spalding said.

  • Soccer season heats up

    Practices have been underway for a while for both the boys and girls soccer teams at Marion County High School. With the extremely hot weather that has been in the area for the past couple of weeks, the teams have resorted to practicing early in the morning or late at night when the temperature is not so excessive.  The unusual practice times have not deterred the teams from concentrating on their goals.

  • Preseason volleyball starts with mixed results

    Over the final weekend of July, the Marion County Lady Knights volleyball team participated in the Bluegrass Games.
    Throughout the three-day event, the Lady Knights played seven games, winning three of them.
    Victories came over Atherton, Graves County, and Trinity-Whiteside with losses coming against Bishop Brossart, Lafayette, Whitefield Academy, and Dunbar.

    After weeks of practicing, the Marion County High School boys and girls golf teams are ready for their seasons to begin. With first year Head Coach Chad Spalding at the helm, this season will likely be a learning experience.
    “We are a senior dominated group with both the girls and boys,” he said. “The girls team has three very experienced golfers and should have a lot of success, if we can stay healthy. While the girls team has experience, the boys team has depth.”

  • MCHS has a new athletic trainer

    Jennifer May, 24, of Carterville, Ill., was recently hired by KORT Physical Therapy to be a certified athletic trainer for Marion County High School. May, who graduated from Southern Illinois University in May of 2010, moved to Lebanon this past Friday and officially began her new job Monday.
    In April, Glen Richardson, who was the athletic trainer for nearly nine years, resigned to begin a new athletic training position at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville.

  • Team prepares for a winning season

    With the school year fast approaching, some teams have already began practicing and preparing for the upcoming season. The 2011 volleyball team is one of these, and hopes to capture a fourth straight district title and make a push for a regional title. This year’s squad will be what Head Coach David Hibbard calls, “a power hitting and strong blocking squad.” Hibbard said this could be one of the best teams in program history.
