  • Lady Knights' softball team takes two of three

    The Marion County Lady Knights softball team played won two of the three games last week. The Lady Knights were able to defeat Mercer County at home and Casey County on the road, but fell to Green County at home.

  • Epps is Gatorade Player of the Year

    Marion County High School senior Makayla Epps has added another award to her collection. During the KHSAA Sweet 16, Epps was notified that she won the Gatorade Kentucky Girls Basketball Player of the Year for 2013.  
    This award not only recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the court.
    Epps’ selection as the Kentucky player of the year placed her in the running for National Player of the Year.

  • Our All American: Epps honored at MCHS

    Marion County High School paused on Tuesday afternoon to honor one of its own.

    Makayla Epps was recognized as Marion County's first McDonald's All American.

    Epps thanked her teammates, saying this award wouldn't have been possible without them. She thanked her parents, Anthony Epps and Angela Mattingly. She thanked her fellow students, the community and even the band for their support throughout the season.

    "This is a blessing, for real," Epps told the assembly. "I just want to thank everybody in the gym."

  • Track teams start season at Nelson County

    The Marion County High School track team opened its season March 12 by traveling to Nelson County, which was hosting its first track meet since 2000.  The girls team finished seventh overall with seven points, and the boys team finished sixth with 49 points.
     “I thought our kids did a great job in some adverse weather,” Marion County Coach Keith Brown said,   “The meet was the first one of the season and had a few glitches to work through, but our kids responded well. Hopefully by late April, we will be hitting the marks we need.”

  • Lady Knights cap perfect season with state title

    The Marion County Lady Knights basketball team made history once again Saturday night.  
    This time, the Lady Knights won the championship game of the Houchens Industries/KHSAA Girls Sweet 16 State Basketball Tournament at E.A. Diddle Arena and finished the season with a perfect 39-0 record.  
    This is the Lady Knights’ fourth straight state tournament appearance, and each year the team advanced further than the previous year. After falling in the final game last year, Marion County took down the Notre Dame Pandas, 52-36.

  • Marion County to face Notre Dame in state final

    The Marion County Lady Knights (38-0) will face the 9th Region champion Notre Dame Pandas (29-5) for the state championship in the 2013 Girls Sweet 16 at 9 p.m. Eastern time/8 p.m. Central time in Diddle Arena in Bowling Green.

    Marion County has rolled through its first three opponents in this year's Sweet 16. The Lady Knights are averaging 69 points per game and allowing 41.3 points. Notre Dame is averaging 56.3 points per game in the state tournament, while allowing 50.7 points.

  • Knights win opening scrimmage

    The Marion County Knights baseball team played and won their opening contest of the season Saturday. The scrimmage against Hart County was scheduled to take place Friday at Marion County, but due to poor field conditions it was moved back a day and was moved to Hart County.  
    Neither team was able to score in the opening inning. Marion County once again failed to score in the top of the second inning. Hart County managed to push a run across in the bottom of the second inning off of a hit, a sacrifice, and an error to lead 1-0 after two innings.

  • New faces highlight 2013 track season

    Under the direction of second year Head Coach Keith Brown, the Marion County High School track team is looking forward to welcoming some new faces to the squad.
    “Seniors Satchel Tatum, Morgan Avritt and Madison Avritt along with junior Samaad Bouie have joined the team and looked impressive in the early workouts,” Brown said.

  • Knights looking for good net play

    The Marion County Knights and Lady Knights tennis teams are looking forward to their seasons.
    “I am optimistic about the upcoming season as we return many of the players from last year’s regional championship team,” second year boys coach Landon Williams said. “Because of last year’s success, we will have several opportunities throughout the regular season to match up with the top talent in the state. As long as we don’t get discouraged, the schedule will help us improve and get after some people during the regional tournament.”

  • Manager shows nothing is impossible

    “The only thing that can limit you is yourself. You should set your own limits, and you can do whatever comes to your mind.”
    That’s Ezra Glasscock’s very own motto. And he lives by those words everyday.
    The Marion County High School Lady Knights basketball manager has overcome some major obstacles in his life, but has accomplished everything he has set his mind to. Glasscock has persevered through a stroke, severe seizures, a major brain surgery, and lifelong limited use of the left side of his body.
