  • Knights split two games

    The Marion County Knights baseball team managed to squeeze in two games at the end of last week after a rash of rainouts early in the week. The Knights played Taylor County on Friday and Shelby County on Saturday, both at Hourigan Field.  Marion County came out of these two contests with a record of 1-1, taking their overall record to 7-8.

  • Lady Knights pick up district win

    The Marion County Lady Knights softball team was scheduled to play three games last week, all at Talley Field. However, due to rain, they were only able to get in one of those games.

  • Team performs well at home meet

    During Friday’s Panther Twilight Invitational track meet at Elizabethtown, sophomore Brooks Divine took what Head Coach Robby Peterson described as “a nasty fall” on the pole vault event which caused some injuries that will most likely sideline Divine for the rest of the season. According to Divine’s mother, Brooks suffered some pulled ligaments in his neck and a fractured rib.

  • Girls coaching staff resigns

    Last week, Lady Knight Softball Head Coach Trent Milby, Assistant Coach Anthony Epps, and Assistant Coach Renee Spalding all turned in letters of resignation to Marion County High School Athletic Director Stacey Hall. All three letters stated that the resignations will become effective after this season is completed, not immediately as initially reported. The site-based decision making council will review these letters during their regular scheduled meeting today, April 27.
    Hall noted that each of the three coaches had other things they wanted to focus on.

  • Team has another strong showing

    Thursday afternoon, the Marion County High School track team hosted an all-comers track meet. Each team finished overall in the top three, with the boys team taking second place only behind Boyle County by seven points while the girls captured third place behind Russell County and Boyle County as well. Both teams performed very well with the girls team collecting nine top three finishes and the boys taking a spot in the top three 13 times.

  • Lady Knights have 3-1 week

    The Marion County Lady Knights softball team was able to get in four games last week, taking away three wins. Marion County played three district games, winning two out of three of those, taking their district standings to 2-1.
    “We are still in good shape as far as the No. 1 seed for the district goes,” Head Coach Trent Milby said. “We just need to win out at home in district games, and we should be in good shape for the No. 1 seed.”
    The Lady Knights overall record now stands at 9-5 after last week’s action.

  • Knights pick up first district win

    Tuesday of last week, the Marion County Knights baseball team traveled to Campbellsville to take on the Taylor County Cardinals. The Knights would jump out to an early 2-1 lead after the opening inning, but weren’t able to muster much offense after that.
    The Cardinals would score four runs in the second inning and five in the third inning to break the game open, and cruise to a 14-5 victory. The loss, the fourth in a row for the Knights, dropped their record to 5-7 overall and 0-3 in the district race.

  • Swimmers take honors at banquet

    Recently, the swim team held their annual banquet at the Lebanon Country Club, with approximately 70 people in attendance. Several swimmers took home honors.
    Numerous swimmers were awarded at this year’s banquet.  The awards are as follows:

    Regional Place Winners
    - Boys 200 Medley Relay: 11th place - Ryo Ogasawara, Jordan Mattingly, Nathan Devine, Austin Howard,; Jordan Mattingly, 12th place - 200 Free
    - Girls 200 Free Relay: 11th place - Johannah Leake, Amber Howard, Olivia Carrico, Brooke Lee

  • Girls have strong week

    The Marion County Lady Knights tennis team competed in three matches last week, defeating Nelson County on the road and Bethlehem at home. Their only loss of the week came to a strong regional competitor in Elizabethtown.
    When discussing last week’s meets, Head Coach Angela Holt commented on the play of Taylor Corbett and Alyssa Farmer.
