  • Knights fall to LaRue County

    The Marion County Knights tennis team hosted their first match of the season at Graham Memorial Park against LaRue County Thursday. LaRue County defeated the Knights 4-1.
    In singles play, Marion County’s Alex Spalding lost to LaRue County’s Dylan Parr in three sets (7-6), (6-7), and (2-6) after an exciting match. However, first year Head Coach Chase Burdette has high hopes for Spalding this season.

  • Lady Knights start off strong

    The Marion County Lady Knights tennis team fared well during their first match of the season against LaRue County at home Thursday.
    Despite the cold weather conditions, they defeated LaRue County 5-1 in a good showing to start the season.
    “We had solid play from the girls in our opening match,” Head Coach Angela Holt said. “Each of our players has already identified areas of their game that they can work on that will improve their skills and strategy.”

  • Season Recap... Lady Knights break records

    The Marion County Lady Knights 2010-11 basketball season was record breaking.
    The Lady Knights put together an impressive 27-7 final record that led them all the way to the final four in the state tournament, the farthest of any Lady Knight team to date. A two-point loss to DuPont Manual would end the Lady Knights season, one game short of a chance to play for a state title.

  • Season Recap... Knights had strong showing

    As the 2010-11 basketball season wrapped up for the Marion County Knights boys basketball team, many people were pleasantly surprised with what they saw. The Knights wrapped up the season in the semi-final game of the regional tournament with a final record of 16-13. This was the programs first winning record since going 16-12 in 2005-06.
    Over the course of the season the Knights played 13 home games and 16 road games. In the home games, the Knights picked up 10 of their 16 wins while the other six came on the road.

  • Knights swing into action

    After wrapping up last season with a record of 15-14, Head Coach Chad Spalding looks for this season to be an improvement.
    “It will be difficult for us to obtain but I think we have a shot at winning 20 games,” Spalding said. “In order for us to do that we will have to play solid defensively and catch some breaks with the weather and not have many games canceled.”

  • District crown is in Lady Knights’ sight

    Losing only one player to graduation after compiling a 22-13 record, the Marion County Lady Knights softball team has high expectations for the 2011 season.  After winning the 20th district title last year, the Lady Knights beat Washington County 10-0 in the first round of the regional softball tournament before losing to Green County 2-1 in the second round of region.
    Head Coach Trent Milby hopes that this year’s squad will win the district crown for the second year in a row, and take their chances in the 5th region tournament once again.

  • Young boys plan to compete

    With a new coach at the helm, the Marion County Knights tennis team has a positive outlook about the upcoming season. Because the team lost several strong players from last year, Head Coach Chase Burdette says this is a building year.  “Team positions aren’t very solid yet, which is to be expected with a young team,” Burdette said.

  • Girls look for new seedings

    The Marion County Lady Knights tennis team won’t have their top singles players from last year, as Kameron Simmons and Leanna Begley were lost to graduation.  For this year’s team, Head Coach Angela Holt says she is still in the process of determining the seedings.

  • Knights defeated in semi-finals

    The Marion County Knights varsity boys basketball team traveled to Green County High School March 7 to take on the Bardstown Tigers in the semi-final game of the regional tournament, looking to upset their opponent and move on to the 5th Region championship game. The Knights stayed within striking distance for three quarters, but a 23-6 outburst by the Tigers in the fourth quarter put an end to Marion County’s season.

  • Disappointed at Diddle

    Marion County started strong, fell behind, but fought back to regain the lead and had multiple chances to send the game to overtime, but in the end, Manual survived in the Saturday morning semifinal match-up in the Houchens Industries/KHSAA Girls Sweet Sixteen.
