  • Knights pound Commanders

     The Marion County Knights varsity boys basketball team traveled to Springfield to take on the Washington County Commanders in a border rivalry Saturday night.  The Knights outscored the Commanders in all four quarters of the game, and easily defeated the home team by 29 points with a final score of 74-45 boosting their record to 13-9. Three Marion County players scored in double figures, with senior Deshawn Douglas leading the way with 18 points. Junior Carlos Litsey captured his seventh double-double of the season in the game, scoring 10 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.

  • Knights win final game

    The Marion County Knights varsity boys basketball team hosted the LaRue County Hawks at the Roby Dome Friday evening. Despite a late surge by the Hawks in the fourth quarter, the Knights held on to defeat LaRue County with a final score of 63-58 on senior night. The win capped of the season for the Knights and they hold a 14-11 record heading into the district tournament. Three Marion County players scored in double figures, with junior Carlos Litsey leading the way with 17 points, connecting on eight of nine field goals in the game.

  • No Mercy - Lady Knights beat Jaguars 51-47

    The Marion County Lady Knights varsity girls basketball team traveled to Louisville to play the Mercy Academy Jaguars Tuesday of last week. Marion County led all but 34 seconds in the game, holding on to beat Mercy by a final score of 51-47.
    Junior Bre Elder and sophomore Makayla Epps led the way for the Lady Knights with 18 points and 16 points, respectively. The win gave the Lady Knights their fifth consecutive 20 win season.

  • AquaKnights compete in region meet

    The swim team participated in the Region 3 swim meet recently. According to Coach Colleen Ryan, this winter’s weather created some challenges for the team regarding its ability to practice and attend meets, but the swimmers didn’t let it slow them down.
    “We faced another obstacle when the flu took out two of my strongest swimmers, one was my Senior Captain Annaliece Mattingly, right before the regional meet while a third strong swimmer was unable to swim due to a death in the family,” she said.

  • Knights lose in comeback bid

    The Marion County Knights varsity boys basketball team traveled to Danville to take on the Boyle County Rebels Monday of last week. After being down by as many as 15 points late in the third quarter, the Knights cut the deficit to three near the end of the game but came away short with a final score of 54-47.  Senior Deshawn Douglas led the way for Marion County with 15 points on the night.

  • Leathers recognized for service

    Longtime coach Freddie Leathers was recognized for his 26 years of coaching service at Marion County High School Friday night during halftime of the boys basketball game.
    Leathers served as the assistant girls basketball coach for 10 seasons under Coach Beverly Sis Roby, head girls basketball coach for 11 seasons after Roby retired, and boys and girls golf coach.

  • Knights lose big to John Hardin at home

    The Marion County Knights varsity boys basketball team hosted the John Hardin Bulldogs on Tuesday of last week at the Roby Dome. The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as John Hardin defeated Marion County by a final score of 75-52. Freshman Alex Smith scored a game high 22 points. Smith’s 22-point outburst marked the first time that a freshman Knight had scored 20 or more points since March 8, 2005, when Mitchell Lancaster scored 20 points against John Hardin in a regional tournament game.

  • Lady Knights handle Lady Trojans easily

    The Marion County Lady Knights varsity girls basketball team went on the road Friday night to play the North Hardin Lady Trojans. After an average first quarter, the Lady Knights began to pull away from the Lady Trojans. Marion County led at the half with a score of 34-20 and went on to win the game and improve their record to 18-6 with a final score of 64-43. Junior Bre Elder led the way with a game high 23 points for the Lady Knights.
