  • Swim team wraps up season at regional meet

    The Marion County Aquaknights competed in the region three swim meet held in Russell County recently. As a team, the girls finished in 13th place overall with 44 points and the boys finished in 17th place with 36 total points.
    “We took 22 swimmers to region this year, compared to 12 last year,” Head Coach Holly Buckman said.
    Buckman also noted that several swimmers and relay teams broke records or trimmed some time off of their previous bests on the season.

  • Fourth quarter dooms Knights

    The Marion County High School Knights basketball team traveled to Radcliff Friday to take on North Hardin. The Knights managed to stay in the game throughout the first three quarters, but their offense stalled in the fourth quarter as the Trojans went on to win the game by a final score of 88-60. Alex Smith led the way for the Knights with 24 points.
    Four minutes into the game, the Knights found themselves in a 15-4 hole. Marion County battled back, and was sparked by a four-point play by Alex Smith to trim the deficit to 23-17 as the quarter ended.

  • Lady Knights improve to 29-0 on season

    The Lady Knights headed to East Hardin Middle School to tangle with the third ranked Henderson County Lady Colonels in the Duke’s Sporting Goods Valentine’s Day Shootout Saturday.
    Marion County blew Henderson County away early on, and the Lady Colonels could never recover. Makayla Epps led all scorers with 35 points helping Marion County win by a final score of 67-40.
    The win marks the 29th in a row by the Lady Knights. The 29 wins now have surpassed the previous mark of 28 consecutive wins set in the 1979-1980 season.

  • Freshmen girls win district tournament

    The Marion County High School freshman Lady Knights won their district tournaments at Adair County High School recently. The Lady Knights were 6-0 in district play and 15-1 overall.
    The Lady Knights defeated Taylor County in the opening, 41-9, and hung on to topple Adair County, 39-36, in the title game.

  • Knights in command

    The Marion County Knights varsity basketball team traveled to Springfield Saturday to play the Washington County Commanders in a pink out for Relay for Life. After defeating the Commanders earlier in the season, the Knights looked to do the same again, and were successful in a 63-54 win. The Knights were led by a career high 25 points from Alex Smith.

  • 1993 state champions honored

    Marion County High School honored its 1993 state championship boys basketball team before the Knights game with Taylor County Friday night. The 1993 squad finished the season 38-2.
    They defeated Lexington Dunbar in the state championship game, 85-77.

  • Lady Knights finish district play unbeaten

    The Marion County Lady Knights went on the road to take on the Washington County Commanderettes Saturday. In a game controlled by the Lady Knights, some of the starters did not play in the second half as Marion County cruised to a 51-point win.
    The Lady Knights did not allow the Commanderettes to score in the opening quarter as they led the game 31-0 after the first period. Makayla Epps led the way with 12 points in the first eight minutes.

  • Aquaknights win again

    The Marion County Aquaknights hosted Bethlehem and Nelson County in a swim meet Thursday. Both the girls and the boys teams won easily. The girls team totaled up 609 points, defeating Bethlehem with 245 points and Nelson County with 203 points. The boys team collected 375.5 points while Bethlehem took 237.5 points and Nelson County got 84 points.

  • Knights win one; lose two

    The Marion County High School Knights basketball team took on the host Seneca Redhawks Saturday. After fighting back from an 11-point deficit, the Knights came up one point short, losing 76-75 and falling to 10-12 on the season.
    Latrelle Irvin led Marion County with 26 points, but sophomore Chase Lancaster spurred the Knights with career highs of 21 points and six three-point field goals.

  • Lady Knights stay unbeaten

    In their final game of the Raatz Fence Classic in Louisville at Mercy Academy, the Marion County Lady Knights basketball team took on their toughest opponent this season, the Science Hill, Tenn., Hilltoppers.
    The Lady Knights  (24-0) nearly let the game slip away at the foul line, but hung on for a 61-58 win to remain undefeated.  
    Marion County used an 8-0 start to build an 18-12 lead after the first period. Science Hill trimmed the deficit to just two points, 29-27, at the half.
    Marion County closed the third period on a 9-1 run to take a 48-36.
