  • Coyote season coming to Kentucky

To start, congratulations to the MCHS girls basketball team on a great year … you were perfect!
So what’s coming up? Well, for the hunters we have our spring turkey season. For our youth hunters, the season runs April 6-7. Everyone else can turkey hunt April 13 through May 5. Limit is one per day, two per season no matter how you take them. As an example: I plan on taking one bird with my shotgun and one with my crossbow … total of two.

  • The 2013 fishing season is near

The first bass tournament of the season is coming up in a few weeks on March 24, but it’s time to get ready. Come the Cabin Fever Open on Fagan Branch we’ll all be ready or at least should be ready.

  • Get your ammunition, your license and outdoors

Last week I forgot to mention who we booked our Snow Goose hunt with. We booked with Premier Flight Guide Service and they can be reached at www.goosegrinders.com.
Please understand, our lack of success was in no way the fault of Premier Flight or our guides. It was just some very crappy luck!

  • More from goose hunt

Our Arkansas snow goose hunt was too much to be covered in one article. So, this week I’ll finish up on our adventure.
Now in order to catch up with the story, get a copy of last week’s paper and read it!

  • Deer: Simpson

Chris Simpson killed this 8-pointer with a bow. He is pictured with his girlfriend, Leslie Cox.

  • Deer: Cox

Leslie Cox killed her first deer, a 6-pointer, with a muzzle loader. She is pictured with her boyfriend, Chris Simpson.

  • Geese galore and more

Snow geese by the thousands… maybe millions… awaited us in Arkansas. So many snow geese that a special “conservation order” season has been set in an attempt to control their numbers.
No license required, just a number from the state of Arkansas. No plug in your gun to allow only a certain number of shells. Matter of fact, you can use a “tube extension” to allow the use of not three, but up to 10 total shells.
And the biggest kicker: No limit on the number of birds you can take!

  • McCoy is new fish and wildlife officer

  • Deer: Blair

Trey Blair, age 14, killed this 8-point buck during youth season on his Papaw’s farm in New Hope.

  • Deer: Bland

Brooklynne Bland, age 9, killed her first buck, a 13-pointer. She is the daughter of Keith and Lara Bland.
