Outdoors

  • Goose hunt goes well
  • Shooting crows, but not ready to eat any

Once again I’m looking at an early deadline as I write this! And, once again it’ll be short. The upside is that you’ll have to wade through so much less  ****!  I’m figuring you know what I’m talking about!

Tried something the other day. Course my grandfather and his “eat what ya kill” philosophy would have been pretty disappointed, but I just couldn’t stomach “eating crow.”

  • Listen up to learn about duck, predator hunting

Ran across a guy the other day that asked why I had “gotten so up-ity.”
When I recovered I asked him just what he was talking about.
Seems like the last two times he’d seen me he, spoke to me and I walked away without even acknowledging his presence.
I guess this might have happened before and will undoubtedly happen again so I’ll explain why.
When I act like I don’t hear you, I don’t hear you! Boys and girls, I’m deaf! Well, just deaf in one ear, I still have about 50 percent in the other ear.

  • Definition of a good duck hunt

Has anyone been outside lately? If so, you’ve probably experienced a regional dose of global warming! The other day it even got warm enough to thaw out a Mountain Dew I had in my blind bag.

  • Deer: Mattingly

Pictured are J.R. Mattingly, 7, top, who killed a button buck on Dec. 28, 2013, and Luke Mattingly, 4, who killed an 8-point buck on Dec. 29, 2013, while hunting with their father in Calvary. Their parents are B.J. and Missy Mattingly.

  • More goodies from Santa for Christmas

Santa was good, real good! Kids got the old man a 22-250 caliber barrel for my Encore Pro Hunter. And, not just my barrel! They got a Bullberry barrel!

Then, Santa himself got me a Wildfire II predator call. Even though Santa was suffering from “beard envy” he still came through!

So now I have the gun and the call. Now I just have to learn to use them.

  • Duck Dynasty, coyote hunt and a merry Christmas

I thought I wouldn’t be writing again before Christmas but then I got the message, “early deadline.”

So I turned in one article for Monday, and now I’m writing for a Friday turn in! What happens in four days? Well, to be honest, not much!

I did see where Phil Robertson, the daddy of Duck Dynasty, was being dropped for his response to a question he was asked.

  • Getting the lead out

It seems like we’ve reached another level in our downward spiral!

As of Dec. 5, the Doe Run Company closed its doors, permanently.

So what’s the big deal about one company closing up operations? Normally I’d say “What’s new,” it seems to be happening all the time.

  • Deer photos, Dec. 18
  • Hunters on the prowl to find some predators

First off, we moved the December 4-H Fishing Club meeting from the 19 to Dec. 12.
We’re going to be making an ornament for your tree, so you’ll want to be sure to attend!

Seems the predator hunting bug bit Terry Davis. Now we’re still going duck hunting, but have accepted one hard fact: There just aren’t that many ducks around here. At least not enough to support a bad duckaholic!
So what does one do in the absence of ducks? Seems the answer, in addition to rabbits, squirrels, quail, would be predators. Specifically coyotes!
