  • Give topwater fishing a try

    Ok, early deadline again! So, here I sit with not much in the way of anything to write about! But, all is not lost.
    What we're going to talk about is fishing. And, not just any kind of fishing. We're going to talk about fishin' on top.
    Topwater fishing is about the most exciting form of fishing there is. You're usually restricted to about four hours fishing topwater.
    That's two hours in the morning and two hours in the evening. The morning hours usually start an hour before sunrise and end an hour after the sun comes up.

  • Warrior Dash was a mostly positive event

    About all anyone is talking about is Saturday's Warrior Dash. Seems "most" comments are on the positive side... with transportation being the biggest gripe!
    And yes, lines and waiting times for a ride were long. But, a major accident closed the shuttle route for well over an hour and the delay messed up what was a relatively smooth operation. Due to the backup/wait, several "warriors" decided to walk from the event venue back to their vehicles at the fairgrounds.

  • Two Lady Knights play for Kentucky Junior All-Stars

    Over the weekend, the Kentucky Junior All-Stars played a pair of games against the Indiana Junior All-Stars, and two Marion County Lady Knights were selected to represent Kentucky.
    Makayla Epps and Kyvin Goodin-Rogers both played for Kentucky Friday and Saturday in games at North Oldham High School. Indiana won both games.
    On Friday night, Indiana won 101-98 in spite of a 44-point effort by Becca Greenwell of Owensboro Catholic.
    Goodin-Rogers scored 11 points for the Kentucky squad, and Epps added six points.

  • No time to fish - it's Warrior Dash time!

    Just a few days now until the much-anticipated Warrior Dash. Last I checked there were more than 5,800 signed up to participate. Couple that with a requested 2,000 workers, who knows how many "observers" and we're looking at a major crowd on Saturday, June 23.
    I'm thinkin' this could be the biggest crowd... outside Ham Days... we're likely to see here for a one-day event!
    Am I doin' the dash? Heck no, too many years, too many miles. Besides, I already did my dash years ago!

  • Don't forget about Father's Day

    The Warrior Dash, a major outdoor event, is coming to Popes Creek Ranch in a week or so - June 23.
    Last I checked the registration was at almost 5,000 and wasn't closed yet!
    This Warrior Dash involves some intense conditioning just to compete. Then there's three or four miles of "obstacles." "Warriors" will run through the woods, stumble/wade through mud and water, climb walls, jump through fire and all kinds of other challenges.

  • Mattingly turtle hunt

    The 7th Annual Mattingly Memorial Day Turtle Hunt in remembrance of 'Lil Tony' Mattingly was held May 8. Hunting this year were Little Bob Williamson, Timmy Dale Mattingly, Tony Blair and Tony Mattingly Sr. Chris Smothers and Buster Shuck also hunted but were absent from photo. They caught 25 turtles.

  • Fish: Bradshaw

    This is one of three muskie fish Alex Bradshaw caught with the help of his good buddy Johnny Switser. The biggest fish weighed 24-pounds and was 42-inches long.

  • Biking for a good cause

    The Bike the Bluegrass event made a return trip to the roadways of Marion and Washington counties this past weekend. Last year, during the first weekend of June, the same event crossed through the community and raised a large sum of money to fund research for multiple sclerosis. Like last year, the course started at St. Catharine College in Springfield, and made its way through the countryside of Marion and Washington counties.
