  • BASEBALL: Knights fall in extras...

In the bottom of the fourth, Mother Nature made an unexpected visit to Dave Hourigan Field April 18. First, lightning stopped a scoreless, defensive struggle between Marion County and Campbellsville, then rain suspended the game until the next evening. Wednesday evening, the Eagles (10-7, 3-1) defeated district rival Marion County 1-0, scoring the only run of the game in the ninth inning when Trayce Mattingly laid down a squeeze bunt and brought John Orberson home.

  • Never saw it coming

This team hadn't lost a game in 865 days. When they recorded their 100th consecutive win against South Carolina Feb. 13 during a winning streak that spanned 111 games, they were beating teams by an average margin of 38.4 points. A heart-breaking loss prevented this team from vying for a chance at a fifth straight championship title last month.

  • SOFTBALL: Lady Knights beat C...

Marion County steadily built a 6-1 lead before Campbellsville's Brenna Wethington sent a two-run home run over the left field fence. Suddenly, now only three runs separated these two district rivals last Monday with an inning left to play.
Playing on their home away from home, the Lady Knights were able to stay undefeated in district play with a 6-3 win against the Lady Eagles (7-11, 2-2) in a game moved to Graham Memorial Park due to a rain-soaked Talley Field.

  • TENNIS: Rough outing for Knights...

Marion County looked to build some momentum before play in the Heartland Conference, but a tough outing at LaRue County Thursday foiled those plans.
"It was rough," Marion County Head Coach Noah Swencki said. "It was really, really rough for us."

  • Vaught’s Views: California guard...

    By Larry Vaught

It was not a surprise to Justin Downer when California guard Jemarl Baker got a scholarship offer from Kentucky earlier this month — or that he accepted it.
“He is a kid that is very confident in his abilities,” said Downer.
Downer is an assistant coach on for Earl Watson Elite — the team Baker played for on the Under Armor circuit last summer and made a league-best 41 3-pointers.
