For three quarters, Marion County hung with the Braves, trailing only by six at the half and by 14 at the end of the third quarter. Union County, however, dispatched Allen Harmon's squad with a 20-point fourth quarter and took a 49-21 win on John J. Boswell Field.

"We started off slow and they got two goals in the first seven minutes," Marion County Head Coach Daniel Johnson said. "Then we played our best stretch of soccer for 30 minutes, holding them scoreless and managing several shots on goal. We were just unable to finish.

  • VAUGHT’S VIEWS: Kentucky...

    By Larry Vaught

Kentucky has lost two likely starters — offensive tackle Cole Mosier and receiver Dorian Baker — to season-ending injuries and the Cats don’t play their first game until Saturday at Southern Mississippi.
Yet, Kentucky fans remain almost giddy about this team and what it can do this year. The Cats even received votes in the Associated Press preseason top 25 poll after finishing last year 7-6 and playing in the TaxSlayer Bowl.

  • VOLLEYBALL: Marion County...

The Marion County Lady Knights made some mistakes and suffered through poor stretches of play during their match against Washington County. Worst of all, they fell in five sets (25-19,21-25,13-25,25-20,7-15) to their cross-county rival in Springfield on Aug. 22.
