  • Local gymnasts heading to state...

     Every member of the Fit Kids gymnastics teams qualified for the state gymnastics meet based on their performances at the Thanksgiving Classic, which was held Nov. 22-23 in Park Hills. The state meet is scheduled for March of 2015.

    Here is a rundown of how each gymnast performed (the results are within their respective age division):

    Making the transition from high school to college can be a challenge.

    That’s true in the classroom and on a basketball court, as two former Lady Knights, Evelyn Taylor and Patrice Tonge have learned firsthand. Taylor and Tonge are first cousins, and they are both members of the St. Catharine College Lady Patriots basketball team, which competes in the NAIA’s Mid-South Conference.

  • Epps is ready to shine for...

    There were times in the recruiting process when Matthew Mitchell wasn’t sure what he would get from Makayla Epps.

    He saw game after game of the Marion County point guard and frequently walked away perplexed.

    With hunting season in full swing, many fathers and sons are bringing home deer for the dinner table. One group in Marion County however, brought the joys of hunting to those who need it most – wounded veterans.

  • Knights, Lady Knights tip-off...

    Marion County basketball fans will have to hit the road if they want to watch local teams play in their season openers.

    Monday, Dec. 1, the Lady Knights will be heading to Bardstown for a 7:30 p.m.  game against the Lady Tigers, while the Knights will visit the Casey County Rebels at 8 p.m. The Knights will return to the road Tuesday, Dec. 2, for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off against the Bardstown Tigers.

  • Stay thankful, my friends

     Coming up is Thanksgiving, the time of year when the meaning of family manifests itself as we approach another year.

    Over the period of a year things will change, as they always do. So be thankful for what you have today and thankful for those whose courage gives us reason to give thanks.

    Some time during the day, just stop and consider what you have to be thankful for.

  • Lady Knights duo helping UK women

     While the men’s basketball team gets more attention, the Kentucky Wildcats women’s team is 4-0 on the season, which includes a 74-64 win over Baylor on Nov. 14.

    And former two Lady Knights are playing key roles this season.

    Makayla Epps is averaging 12.3 points, five rebounds, and 3.25 assists per game for UK so far this season.

  • Industrial league tourament is...

    The Lebanon Elementary Family Resource Center will be hosting its annual Industrial Basketball Tournament at Lebanon Middle School from Dec. 26 through 28.

    Interested teams must consist of workers who are employed at least 20 hours per week at their companies. 

  • Volleyballer seeking donations...

     Shelby Goode has been invited to participate in the Down Under Sports Tournaments hosted on the Gold Coast of Australia. She will be participating in this international event on the East Conference Volleyball Team during the summer of 2015. She is looking for sponsors to make donations towards the cost of competing down under.
