  • Vaughts views: Magnolia Vale to...

    By Larry Vaught

After he was asked about joining Christi Thomas on the two-hour Countdown to Kickoff on the UK Radio Network, former Kentucky quarterback Freddie Maggard wasn’t sure what to expect.

He had never met her and knew she would be the first female to host a pregame radio show for any Southeastern Conference football program if the idea worked.

  • Golf Knights finish third at...

On Sunday night, before Marion County’s regional match, Ethan Spalding sent Joey Reed a text message.

“Coach, I’m going to state. I don’t care what it takes but I’m going,” the senior golfer told his head coach.

Indeed he is going, after shooting a 74 last Tuesday at the Campbellsville Country Club and making good on his prediction of a state tournament berth.

“Pretty awesome if I must say so myself,” Reed said.

  • Fall Classic under way

After nearly six months, the 2017 MLB regular season finally came to an end back on Sunday. One-hundred and sixty-two regular season games gave way to games with huge implications and stakes that couldn’t get much higher.

The postseason is underway. The Fall Classic has begun.

Back on Tuesday, the Minnesota Twins played the New York Yankees in the Big Apple in the AL Wild Card Game while the Arizona Diamondbacks hosted the Colorado Rockies today in the NL Wild Card Game. Win and you’re in; lose and your season is over.

  • Volleyball Lady Knights shut out...

Before Marion County took on Green County last Tuesday, six seniors were honored, presented with gifts and given a round of applause from the crowd gathered at the Roby Dome.

The good feelings from the pregame festivities quickly evaporated, with the Lady Knights falling in two sets, 22-25, 18-25, to the Lady Dragons in the final game for Marion County at the Roby Dome this season.

  • Ballard leads Mercer County to...

Opportunities were there for the Knights. The goals, on the other hand, were not.

Brandon Ballard scored twice for the Titans and Mercer County defended their home field with a 4-0 victory over Marion County last Tuesday in Harrodsburg.

  • Knights still winless after loss...

The Marion County Knights seniors got a great celebration before the game Friday evening against the West Jessamine Colts.

The game’s end result, however, didn’t provide the best end to the celebratory night, as Marion County dropped to 0-7 on the season with a 35-12 loss to West Jessamine. The win assured the Knights a winless record on their home field — John J. Boswell Field — for the season.

  • Lady Knights five-game winning...

The Marion County Lady Knights have extended their winning streak to five after two wins this week over the Presentation Toppers and the Shelby County Lady Rockets, both on Elmer J. George Field.

Marion County defeated the Toppers, 2-1, on Senior Night last Wednesday. The Lady Knights led 2-0 at the half — both goals coming from Libby Palagi.

  • BOYS SOCCER: Taylor County...

The top seed was on the line.
After 80 minutes and two overtimes, Taylor County came out on top. With the game tied at two, Taylor County booted in the game-winning kick in the second overtime, grabbing the top seed in the district and a 3-2 win.
“Wow, what a game,” Knights Head Coach Greg Conley said “We played absolutely, absolutely outstanding. I am incredibly proud of my guys. I’m proud of the way we played and the way we kept our heads through adversity. We just kept battling. We had a lot of heart tonight. A lot of heart.”

  • FOOTBALL: Marion County falls 48...

Homecoming night was sweet and sour Friday evening for the Knights.
Several Hall of Fame inductions made the night a special one, but it still ended in a loss for Marion County, falling to the Mercer County Titans 48-20.
“I was pleased with the overall effort and physicality of the team,” Marion County Head Coach Allen Harmon said. “We had a bad first quarter with all the turnovers and spotted [Mercer County] points.”
