  • Indians blitz past Knights

The Knights had high hopes of taking control of the top seed in the 20th district. All they needed was a win against the Adair County Indians.
The Indians thoroughly and decisively dashed those hopes little by little, basket by basket.
Corey Melton drained five three-pointers on his way to a game-high 27 points and Kell Stotts scored 18 of his 20 points in the first half as the Fifth-Region leading Indians (20-1, 4-0) overwhelmed the Knights (10-9, 2-3) 76-53, Jan. 17, at the Roby Dome.

  • The love of it

A study conducted by Gallup across 140 countries in 2011 and 2012 found that only 13 percent of people are "actively engaged" in their jobs. In contrast, 63 percent of respondents said they were "not engaged" in their jobs. However, the way people describe their views of their work gets worse in the survey. Perhaps most concerning is that 24 percent of those surveyed reported they were "actively disengaged" in their jobs.

  • GIRLS BASKETBALL: Lady Knights...

The Lady Knights built a 22-point lead going into halftime against the Central Hardin Lady Bruins on Jan. 16.
But, they nearly let it slip away.
Haeli Howard had 31 points while Elise Carpenter and Katie Mattingly each had 11 as Marion County hung on for their third straight win against the Central Hardin Lady Bruins 67-59, and survived a sluggish third quarter where Marion County was outscored 21-8.

  • BOYS BASKETBALL: Knights look to...

Two defeats last week within the 20th district to Adair County and Taylor County have sent Marion County from contention for the No. 1 seed to possibly the No. 3 seed come mid-February in the 20th District Tournament at Adair County High School. The loss to Adair County knocked the Knights out of contention for the No. 1 seed and the loss Friday night to Taylor County dealt another blow to the Knights' chances for the No. 2 seed.

  • GIRLS BASKETBALL: Commanderettes...

It's been a rough season for the Washington County Commanderettes.
After a 53-20 win against the Burgin Lady Bulldogs on Dec. 5, Washington County has lost 15 straight games, and seven of those losses have come by 30 or more points.

  • SWIMMING: Adjustments on tap for...

When the Marion County Aquaknights hit the pool for their final regular season meet at Shelby County on Jan. 28, expect things to be a little different.
"We will be adjusting some things as far as organization of relays and trying swimmers in other strokes to tinker with before regions in Russell County," Aquaknights Head Coach Katie Johnson said.
Thus far, the Aquaknights have performed well and have given it their all, according to Johnson.

  • Vaught’s Views: Kentucky signee...

    By Larry Vaught

Kentucky signee P.J. Washington will be in western Kentucky to play games Feb. 17-18 as part of The Grind Session at Marshall County High School.
Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nevada) was not originally scheduled to play in Kentucky this year. However, when the offer to play two games in Kentucky came, Findlay Prep coach Paul Washington knew it was too good an opportunity to decline.

  • BOYS BASKETBALL: Knights roll...

No Lez Means? No problem for the Knights.
The Knights' leading scorer, reeling from a concussion he suffered against Washington County, sat out Marion County's second duel with the Green County Dragons on Jan. 10.
The Knights didn't miss a beat, rolling to a 73-40 victory as Mason Sullivan scored 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Luke Thomas also scored 12 points off four three-pointers and Trevor Douglas led the Knights with 14.
