  • Make-A-Wish softball fund-raiser

    On July 27, Kroger hosted a softball tournament at Graham Memorial Park and raised $700 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, according to Assistant Customer Service Manager Jennifer Hays. She said Kroger plans to host another Make-A-Wish softball game in October, but they will also have other events to benefit the same cause. 

    Irvin Abell sponsored Saturday’s game.

  • Iowa tops Marion County in...

    Marion County’s 11-12 softball all-stars lost their third and final game in the Little League Central Region tournament this afternoon.

    Burlington American Little League, the Iowa state champions, defeated Marion County, 6-0.

    The Iowa team used a four-run third inning to take control of the game.

    Marion County struggled offensively, managing just three hits in the loss.

    Marion County’s 11-12 softball all-stars is scheduled play their final pool play game at the Little League Central Region tournament at 1:30 p.m. in Indianapolis.

    Marion County is playing Burlington American Little League, the Iowa state champions.

    Marion County lost its previous games against the Ohio state champions, 11-4, and the Nebraska state champions, 9-7.

  • Marion County minor league takes...

    The Marion County minor league all-stars reached the championship game of the Battle on Green River, an 8 and under tournament that was held July 13 and 14 in Greensburg. Eight teams participated in the double-elimination tournament.
    Marion County lost to the Bat Catz, 10-0, in the final.
    Marion County 6, Green County 5
    In the tournament opener for both teams, Green County scored four runs, and Marion County answered with three of its own in the first inning.
