  • Some tactics to try when hunting...

Turkey season so far has been less than productive. Confounding or frustrating would be good choices in describing my efforts!
I’m hearing birds but they’re either hanging up or just plain ignoring my efforts. Can’t quite figure out what I’m doing wrong, if anything? It just might be the birds aren’t in the mood!
Or, it could be the technique I’m using.
Yes, there are differing “techniques” used in turkey hunting.

  • Turkey hunting tests patience

Wandering through the woods in half-light, just enough to see where you were going, but not enough to illuminate the cobwebs. No problem, they didn’t taste all that bad.
Hit the call and get an answering gobble. Quick, set the decoys, pick a big tree to place the seat by and wait. Another gobble. This was too easy!
Unfortunately, ya can’t eat gobbles, ya eat gobblers!
Wait a while, rearrange the decoys, do a little calling and … nothing.
Finally, even die hard turkey hunters call it a day.
