  • Not so hot pink

Anyone who watches college sports with any regularity knows that Oregon, perhaps more than any other university, has been a trend-setter in the world of bizarre uniforms.

I know some people love the Ducks’ array of optic green and seemingly day-glo attire, not to mention the occassional mirror-ball chrome. I’m not among the fans of Oregon’s out-there style. But I’m not a player, so really, what does it matter.

The Marion County Knights travelled Friday night to face the undefeated the Boyle County Rebels.

The Marion County Lady Knights made quick work of the Adair County Lady Indians in the first round of the 20th District Tournament Monday night in Campbellsville. Marion County defeated the Lady Indians, 25-17, 25-18, 25-13.

With the win, the Lady Knights (23-11) earned a chance to play for their district championship Tuesday evening (after press time) against either Taylor County or Campbellsville.

  • Soccer Knights win district...

After a season of ups and downs, the Marion County Knights and Lady Knights both advanced beyond the district tournament.

Unfortunately, the Knights (16-7) lost the Nelson County Cardinals (10-5-1) on Monday, 2-0, in the first round the Firth Region tournament at North Hardin high school.

The Marion County boys (16-6) open the 5th Region tournament on at 6 p.m. Monday against the Nelson County Cardinals at North Hardin High School. The winner will face John Hardin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23.

  • Football fan & female

As a college football fan, I welcome the mini-playoff that will be used to decide the champion at the end of the 2014 season.

Better yet, once the television networks realize how much money they can make, I fully expect the powers-that-be in college football to expand the playoff to include more teams.

A selection committee -- similar to the ones that pick the teams for the NCAA basketball tournaments -- will pick the four teams that will be included in the 2014 mini-playoff.

  • Good deed, good game

The Marion County Knights and Lady Knights did battle in order to raise awareness for breast cancer during a double header on Oct. 8. The lines were painted dark pink in honor of the occasion, and door prizes were given to the women in the audience.

“It felt great and we did a great job of painting the field up and lighting the lanterns and getting everyone involved,” Knights Coach Greg Conley said.

  • Busy week means wins for Lady...

Senior night was a good night for the Marion County Lady Knights.

Marion County (23-10) swept the Adair County Lady Indians (7-13), 25-22, 25-14, 25-19, but that’s not all they accomplished with the win.

“We finished undefeated in the district. That’s always a good thing,” Lady Knights Coach David Hibbard said.

Marion County was 6-0 against district opponents this season.
