  • Lady Knights have high...

    This season the Marion County Lady Knights come out with targets on their backs. That tends to happen when state and national publications rank you No. 1 in the state and region. Add a tough schedule from top to bottom and Head Coach Trent Milby has the makings for a championship season.

    "You're looking at 16 games against top 20 teams. That means that you just have to be ready to play each and every game," Milby said. "We're already going to take everybody's best shot as it is."

  • Knights roll in first scrimmage

    Marion County High School hosted Bullitt East in their first scrimmage of the boys basketball season Wednesday of last week without a full deck of cards.

    With a substantial amount of players still in football gear, the Knights were forced to play a five-guard lineup.

    Kendrick Knopp shot the lights out, hitting six of nine three pointers on his way to 25 points in his varsity debut. Austin Spalding, Josh Reed and Deshawn Douglas all scored 14 for the Knights.

  • LMS girls finish strong

    Following a 70-0 record over the course of two seasons, the Lebanon Middle School girls’ basketball team finished the year with a 20-7 record. The Lady Patriots finished runner-up to Anderson County, possibly the best middle school team in the state in a recent tournament.

    "The girls really played hard and improved as season went on. They now will move on to the high school and play for the freshman team," coach Trent Milby said.

    Milby listed members of the team and a brief note about each one.

  • Knights among Elite Eight

    The last time LaRue County and Marion County played each other, the Knights pulled away in the second half after a nip and tuck first half.

    This time after the dust settled the Knights were up 28-0 with four minutes to go in the half. So much for the rematch.

    Marion County High School was hitting on all cylinders in their 41-14 win over district rival LaRue in the second round of the Class AAAA playoffs Friday at John J. Boswell Field.

  • Mattingly finishes strong

    Matthew Mattingly conquered the hills of the Kentucky Horse Park to place in the top 60 runners in the state in his class.

    Mattingly, a senior, finished 56th out of 232 runners in the KHSAA Class AA state cross-country meet on Saturday in Lexington with a time of 18 minutes and 29 seconds to accomplish his goal of making it to state.

    "I was really wanting to get into the 17's but those hills make you run out of gas," Mattingly said after the race. "Plus with all those people it's kind of like NASCAR."

  • Knights face athletic Western...

    The Knights travel to Western High School on Friday night. Kick off is set for 7:30 p.m. in the region championship game. The winner advances to the state semi final at Western Kentucky University to face either Lone Oak (12-0) or Allen County - Scottsville (11-0).

    A caravan will be leaving from the new Kroger at 5:30 p.m. on Friday night. Those wishing to paint car windows should arrive early.

    Western High School (7-5) may have a lower win percentage than Marion County High School (10-2) but they still hold home field advantage on Friday night.
