  • Epps scores eight day after wreck

Former Lady Knight Makayla Epps was involved in an automobile accident Saturday evening on the Bluegrass Parkway, but that didn’t stop her from scoring eight points and grabbing three rebounds in the Kentucky women’s basketball win over East Tennessee State on Sunday.

“Somebody ran into me. But, I’m here and that’s the best thing. Nothing terrible happened. I’m here and I got the opportunity to play,” Epps said in postgame comments posted on the UK women’s basketball website.

  • Soccer a net gain for Tom

Marion County has a tradition of producing great athletes, but as parents and coaches know, once they have shaped their young, it’s time to let them fly. Such is almost always the case when they graduate from high school.

Sabrina Tom is the daughter of Dr. Todd and Fazilah Tom and a former MCHS soccer player. After she graduated in 2010, she began her college athletic career.

  • Marion County teams lose two

Both the Marion County Knights and Lady Knights tasted defeat on the road over the weekend.

On Dec. 14, the Lady Knights (2-1) were hosted by the Pleasure Ridge Park Lady Panthers (3-0) in the Dixie Highway Shootout. Unfortunately, the Lady Knights were overcome by the Lady Panthers, 60-54.

  • Getting the lead out

It seems like we’ve reached another level in our downward spiral!

As of Dec. 5, the Doe Run Company closed its doors, permanently.

So what’s the big deal about one company closing up operations? Normally I’d say “What’s new,” it seems to be happening all the time.

  • Softball: Make-A-Wish Foundation

Kroger recently held a softball tournament as a fund-raiser for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The first photos is Craig Drury’s team, which won the tournament. The second photo is Sabrina Johnson’s team, which was the runner-up.
