  • Lady Knights drop first match

    The Marion County High School girls golf team may be 0-1 in match play so far but Head Coach Danny McFall isn't fazed.

    After all, their only match of the year came against the team that finished fourth in the state last year and lost no players to graduation.

    The Lady Knights played well at Rosewood Golf Course on Thursday night but not well enough to beat a state title contender. Marion County fell to Green County 186 to 167.

    McFall said Green County's top four scores were in the high thirties and low forties.

  • Marion ups Garrad in scrimmage

    Megan Caldwell attacks the net during the Marion County High School volleyball squad took on Garrard County during a preseason scrimmage at the Roby Dome on Tuesday of last week.

    Marion County won 2-0 (25-12, 26-24).

  • Knights golf team fares well

    The Marion County High School boys golf team battled some of the state's best teams this week and came out with only a few scratches.

    Head Coach Freddie Leathers sent his team into the fray this week in two tough tournaments (Danville Invitational, Taylor County Cardinal Classic) and competed in match play against local rivals such as Taylor, Campbellsville and Washington County.

    The Knights remain undefeated in match play and finished fairly well in the tournaments. While the Knights aren't hitting on all cylinders yet, there have been some good surprises so far.

  • Teens school LCC

    Tommy Carrico and Taylor Brady went back to school on Thursday of last week. On Sunday, they decided to send Lebanon Country Club's top golfers back to school as well.

    Carrico, merely a teenager, won the Lebanon Country Club championship on Sunday afternoon. Carrico's birdie on 15 would put him a stroke ahead of second place finisher Billy Simmons. Carrico would par the rest of the way to stay ahead. He finished with an overall 143 (72,71). Simmons finished with 144 (73,71).

  • Golf teams face tough week

    Both Marion County High School golf teams tee off for the first time this week. Both will be tested and should have a better idea of where they stand.

    The girls golf team played at Campbellsville Country Club on Monday against Taylor County and Campbellsville High School. On Thursday they host Green County at Rosewood Golf Course.

  • Football program seeking...

    Marion County High School and the varsity football team are seeking sponsorships for its upcoming Pigskin Classic at John J. Boswell Field.

    The Knights will face defending 4A state champions Bell County.

    Following that game will be a match up between the John Hardin Bulldogs and the Madison Central Indians.

    Sponsorships ranging from $20 to $1,000 and over receive season tickets plus many other extras. Anyone with questions or wishing to donate can contact Stacey Hall at (859) 265-6059.

    Alan George is a 2001 graduate of Marion County High School. He is currently the assistant sports information director at the University of Notre Dame.   What sports did you play while you were at MCHS? What positions?

    I caught passes from Scott Higdon and sacked quarterbacks with David Knopp as a four-year member of the football team. It was also my pleasure to watch Marlis Scott school opponents on the hardwood night after night from the best seat in the house - right next to Danny Marks and Josh McKay.

  • Girls’ golf looks to...

    Never mind their youth, these girls have experience.

    Girls’ golf Head Coach Danny McFall lost no players to graduation from a team that contended for the region last year and sent Olivia Carrico to the state tournament as an individual qualifier.

    "I think we'll have a good season this year.  Last year we finished third in the region. We were right there in the top two and I thought we were going to make it. We surprised a lot of people in that regional tournament," McFall said.
